Hi all, the past few days I hear a slight chafing sound, is that the speedo cable? It is still working but I wondered what else it could be? Thanks!

It's totally possible. It will make a noise when it gets dry and it chafes at the bends. Unclip it from the speedo head and pull the cable out. Coat it with a very thin layer of grease and re-install.

And hand spin the speedo head to make sure it's not the sound source.

Thanks all, I didn't pull the cable out just squirted as many grease as I could and put some machine oil behind the speedo unit. An added bonus is that the needle also doesn't bounce any more between 10-20 mph.

The bounce is an indication the cable was in need of lubrication.

Yep. Binding/releasing, binding/releasing will make the noise and cause the needle to bounce as well. Good on you for fixing the issue.
