Just curious. I use Kijiji for searching for old station wagons in Canada. I use Kijiji for just about everything else too (searching for tires, trailers, other cars, etc.)

Craigslist might exist in Ontario, but I've never used it. Anyone else use it?

I've also been told that people in B.C. use Craigslist more that Kijiji. True? Or not?

Americans use Craigslist more than Kijiji, which never took off in the U.S., or so I've read

I'm from south Canada and my neighbor is Canadian.
    I can't spell or pronounce Kijiji:49:

Funny so far the only Canadians that replied are not from Canada.

Let me be the first Canuck to reply... we use Craigslist a lot more over here on the West Coast. Kijiji is around and they do advertise, but they don't get the traffic that Craigslist does so not many use it. I've tried listing on both, and I get very few if any replies on Kijiji and usually only after the item is already sold on Craigslist. We sold a bunch of old furniture awhile back after a renovation and most of it was spoken for the same day we posted the ad on Craigslist.

    It's pronounced ka gee gee

I always assumed Kijiji was Canadian and Craig list list was American. I don't think I've ever been on Craig list except to follow a link from here maybe. But Kijiji... I'm on there a lot. I actually furnished a cottage thanks to Kijiji.

    Who is Craig anyway?

Interesting, I have done the same on Kijiji. Different coasts for different folks...;)

That's interesting... must be the Rockies screening all the traffic. I recently advertised a 1 bedroom suite for rent on both... had about 80 replies in 2 days on Craigslist and not one reply on Kijiji. In Vancouver, if you want something on Craigslist, you have to be one of the first to reply to ads, otherwise it's gonzo....

According to the article (see the "read" link above), Kijiji gets 3 times the traffic that C/L does in Canada.

I guess B.C. isn't populous enough to make a difference.

Well there's only a little over 2 million of us in the Greater Vancouver area, but I imagine that number would be higher if we weren't counted based on what you and Fannie have said about your experiences. People do use Kijiji here, it's just not as popular as Craigslist

I'd have to agree Fannie... this quote "Research showed that Craigslist was used in Canada mainly by young men looking for accommodations or to place personal ads" is certainly not the case around here... Craigslist is used in the same way it is in the US, to sell everything under the sun. It appears the article was written out of New York and appears to be mainly based on Ontario and Quebec. It is still interesting how different parts of the country of embraced these different services.

Kijiji was started by and is owned by eBay and in the USA it's the Ebay classifieds.
I never check Kijiji or the the evilbay local classifieds.
