I'm contemplating selling the wagon later on this summer, as it's not getting used very much and I hate to see it deteriorate from not being used. I have an idea on what it might be worth, but thought I'd check for your opinions in case I was high or low. Here's the info: 78 Buick Estate Wagon (LeSabre), 93K miles Buick 350 motor Car is stock Car has a/c, am/fm (no cassette), cloth interior, cruise control, PW, PS No third row seat cloth interior new headliner a/c is not working but all there (needs a recharge and a new clutch) There is no rust on the car, its all really solid. rear main seal is leaking Car was bought new in Bremerton, WA and has been in the Northwest all it's life tires were new when I bought the car in 2010 (I've only put less than 3000 miles in that time) Buick Ralley wheels in OK condition, center caps are really nice. new radiator, alternator, battery, catalytic converter, muffler won a 2nd place in its class at a Buick show in Puyallup last summer Its not been restored, but paint is nice. several rock chips in front fascia Bumper fillers are all there, all original and all soft Chrome on bumpers is excellent as are the bumper rub strips woodgrain in decent shape with some fading but it shows nice with a little pledge It's just a nice driving, original car. Here are some pics. This is not a For Sale Ad, but thought you would need the full picture to give me an opinion. Thanks very much
Well.......... I paid $200 for my non running 82, got my turn key zoom zoom 87 for free................... I guess you really don't want to hear my offer. Bummer your thinking of selling, you Buick IS a beautiful example:2_thumbs_up_-_anima, but you have to do what you have to do. Shoot Rev a PM, he knows all kinds of people local with $ who mite be interested
Thanks Tedy... yeah, that would definately be lower than my expectations! I haven't quite gotten to the selling point yet, but close... I'll think about PMíng Rev when the time comes.
check in the meantime what is out there for sale and come up with a good price that works for you with some wiggle room;beautiful wagon btw
Thanks rrbnut. I have been following some of the similar wagons that have been offered for sale recently, which is why I have something in mind... just want to see what you folks come up with to see if I'm in the right ballpark. Ultimately, if I sell, I just want to set a fair price.
The Olds Cars Price Guide lists the value of a '78 Buick Estate Wagon in car show condition at just over $3,000. The next level down ("car show condition") has a value of just under $2,000. In my opinion, those values are low, but station wagon buffs tend to see wagons through glasses that are more rose-colored than the average man on the street. But if that were my car, I'd probably start with an asking price of $5,000 or $6,000 and see if I got any nibbles. If not, I would start lowering the price in maybe $500 increments until some interest was generated. How often I'd lower the price would depend on how quickly I wanted to sell the car. If you're looking for top dollar, you might have to wait awhile. If you need to move the car for one reason or another, you'll need to be more flexible and perhaps take the first reasonable offer that comes along. Car-selling is an art, not a science!
But do you know what their final selling prices were? Asking or offering prices mean nothing as people often have all kinds of loopy ideas about what their car is worth. It's what the cars finally sell for, if they do, that matters.
Thanks very much. Other than a couple of cars that have gone through ebay, I don't know what the final selling prices have been, but I have assumed they are pretty close to the asking price (maybe lower by 10-15% from asking). Keep in mind that I'm pretty realistic about the price for what I have, and I'm not going to be putting a really high dollar mark on it, so I've ignored cars with silly asking prices of say over $10K. I was thinking it might be worth close to $5K to the right buyer. I certainly don't expect it to be much more than that... I just wanted to make sure I was in the correct ballpark
