In this brief flashback scene that was included only in the extended TV version of this movie in which a Boeing 747 sinks in the Bermuda triangle, Lee Grant drives to the pier in a 1977 Buick Estate Wagon to bring marine biologist husband Christopher Lee a picnic lunch. What a classic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOx2CwUxOsU
Thanks for this blast from the past. Watching wagons float down the road is an amazing thing, something we all took for granted. They used to be everywhere. Now when I see one I practically have a seizure.
Here's a close approximation of what we saw onscreen in 1977 for the Buick Estate wagon, minus the factory wheels!
Gotta tell ya, in the year I've owned the Country Squire, and the year+ I had the Colony Park, I've seen a total of FIVE other Panther-platform wagons in the local area. Just five! Plus my two, of course. In the '80s and early '90s, these were everywhere. Now? When I seriously consider selling the car, that scarcity keeps me hanging on to my wagon. It is a true daily driver, adding about 20 - 25 miles per day on it. It's getting ready to turn 76K miles, probably over the weekend!
