I was wondering what interior parts if any are interchangeable on the '55 Pontiac Safari with a '55 four door wagon. I found a '55 four door at a salvage yard and am going to take a look at it next week to see if I can find some of the parts I need. I am looking for the handles for vent windows and some interior chrome. Also, what are the four doors worth, I have no idea what type of shape the car will be in. Thanks for any help. Brandon
Brandon, I am not an expert on the 1950's cars, but all I can think of that would interchange in the interior are small things like Door and Window handles, and any Dash Board parts. Starting at the B-pillers the Body is very different. I don't know what they are worth, but I just posted a few 55/56 2 and 4 door Pontiac wagons in the E-bay/CL section and if they are drivable they were asking 8000 to 17000 for them, But a parts car should be considerably less. Let us know what you find, and take some cell phone pic's while you are there!!!!
I thought the Safaris were Pontiac's answer to the 1955 Nomads. Didn't know they made 4 door Safaris. Go figure. Good luck with the search though. Here's a guy who has a few 1955 Chevys: http://www.callingallcars.ca/Chevy/Chevy 50s.htm http://www.callingallcars.ca/Chevy/Chevy Parts Cars.htm And Pontiacs: http://www.callingallcars.ca/General_Motors/GM 50s.htm http://www.callingallcars.ca/General_Motors/GM Parts.htm Just so you know our Chevys and Pontiacs were not as wide as the US models until 1965 or so. But the lengths were fine, so the doors would work. This guy buys and sells prairie cars (low rust) from the US as well, so I'd ask him if the parts would fit. Email him.
'55 Safari parts/interchangeability Thanks for the replies. I will be sure to take some pictures while I am there. Also they never made 4 door Safari, I am going to look at a 4 door for parts. Thanks again Brandon
From What I understand, the closest you could get to a 4-door Safari was a 57 Transcontinental. The trim levels were pretty Close, I would no mind owning one, but I am holding out for a 58 2-door wagon, only made and sold in Canada.
There's 2 1958 Chevy Yeoman Wagons: http://www.callingallcars.ca/Chevy/Chevy 50s.htm Then score some side panels from his Canadian 1958 Pontiacs: http://www.callingallcars.ca/General_Motors/GM Parts.htm Bingo! A Chevy Cantiac!
'55 wagon pics Here are a few pictures of the '55 4 door wagon. The wagon is in a yard near where I live. Does anyone think some of the parts could be salvaged? I haven't asked how much they want for it yet, and not sure what the salvageable parts would be worth. I was told the windshield and some of the window glass is still good, also the doors. The hood and dash/instrument cluster do not look too bad but everything has been weathered as you can tell for many years. I did not get to look at the vehicle myself due to illness, but a friend of mine went and took the pics. If anyone is interested in some or all of the car let me know and maybe I can get a price or work a deal out with them. They are scrapping most of what is in the yard. The new owners are cleaning up to start fresh and they are saving the older stuff till the end. Thanks for all the help. Brandon
The tail lamp assemblies are pretty salable as a lot of guys use them on 55 Chevys(they are a bolt on).The doors would probably fit a regular 4 door sedan. The windshield is only good for a post sedan or wagon(the Custom Safari uses a convertible/hardtop windshield). If it is a standard shift car the pedal assemblies would be a good salvage item.Brake drums are always a good item if they are in good shape. The gas tank(if it is the same as a Safari)is always a good item as they are not reproduced.Any trim pieces would probably be good as well.
