Hi guys. I found a 65k mile 93 Caprice wagon. It's at a dealer, only $2000. Clean car fax, everything works, no rust. Has a dent in drivers door which I would have to get fixed. My biggest hangup is he says it has the 305. :( For me, it's will be a commuter, no heavy hauling or towing. Obviously I would prefer LT1 in the later year car but was ready to settle for a tbi 350 if I found a nice one. Looking for real world input. Anyone have one? Mpg? Underpowered? Anything advice?

    Thanks

I don't have any personal experience with the 'whale wagons', but from reading a lot of forum feedback, I can relate the following:

The 305 will be fine, as long as you are not a 'performance-oriented' driver, or do any towing. It will not be any more economical with gas mileage than the 350 that was optional. Rated fuel mileage for the 305 was 17/25.

At the last minute, I decided not to check it out. Additional pictures showed other things, the old too good to be true. I did however check out 2 different 96 Roadmasters. They were good deals for what they were but I am holding out for something nicer. Good thing is I came away wanting one, now I just have to be patient.

If it was the wrong car for you, then great idea to walk away. Now, a suggestion about that dent in the door. Because of the shape of the doors, it is fairly common to see that sort of thing, and they tend to be quite smooth, without sharp edges. It is amazing how much of that will pull out with the use of a simple sink plunger, some warm water and a bit of dish detergent!
