Loving this car as I found it by accident. Only 55,000 miles. I had a/c converted to R134 as R-12 freon would bankrupt me. It's my primary source of transport but she is spoile. kept undercover at home and work. Does anyone else have one?[/ATTACH]
Thanks, you all! wish wagons were more popular than they seem to be. My gosh! They can carry so much and they were beautiful cars, esp. back in the day! I am finding it hard to find one simple part for my '87 buick tho. . . any advice? a center cap and I have looked EVERYWHERE!
When I got out of the business, R12 was still readily available and I had a recovery machine, so I have never done a conversion yet. Talking to various people, I get mixed recommendations on how to do it. Some say you have to replace everything. My inclination is that the system needs to be flushed, compatible oil put in the compessor, receiver-dryer and expansion valve replaced and new schrader adapters installed. How did they convert yours?
a/c conversion I don't know the language but they replaced accumulator, refrigeration oil r134 kit ($15.00) vaccumed and charged. labor and parts $324.00 Very happy with the work and r134 is much more affordable and available
Yeah, that's pretty much what I described. One might expect a component to fail because of age, but that's a chance you take.
When my brother bought his 86 Colony Park, the local Ford dealer had a factory kit for the conversion. Parts and labour came to under $200, and the system worked perfectly for the life of the car. The Ford kit included a sealant that was put in before the 134a, as the molecules are smaller than the old R12.
