    Bushings...

Years ago we tried different materials to replace the plugs (bushings) in Ford (Rockwell) lift motors. Metal against plastic just causes the plastic to fail. It worked for us...take a piece of good reinforced fuel line the same diameter as the plug. Cut to length same as the plug. Then carefully thread a bolt into the fuel line for a snug fit. Cut off the excess. This results in a metal core plug that cushions and lasts forever. Of course, make sure to clean all the old grease out of the gear case. That avoids any bits of the old plastic plugs hiding in the grease.
