I bought a Detroit Iron cd, it's in the mail, should get here any day know.
Thanks for your picture, I really appreciate your help.
I wonder what relay my odd one has replaced... do you have any guesses? The 3 other relays witting under those relay covers all have the pins oriented like in you picture. The odd relay does not.

The horn relay is sitting on a metal clip, right in front of the plastic covers… just like yours.

You must have a relay similar to my odd one. Can you locate it and take a picture of the connector ? I wanna get a view of the position of the wires on it, for comparison.

I can, once I get Roger home. The alternator fried in yesterday's 100° heat in San Antonio, and I have to make my way out with a couple charged batteries to try to drive it home the 40-odd miles.

ouch, first things first :) I messed some more with the relays and wiring today, but i'm stuck until I can look at a wiring diagram or possibly a picture of your, hopefully similar relay is wired.

Roger is home, safe and sound. It only took ten plus freaking hours to get it to happen!

Anyway, on the wiring, I'll see what I can get done on photographing the wiring harnesses, but I do have one pic you'll be able to use. Look at the relay's part number, you should be able to see it on the body:

That looks like the horn relay. My horn relay is in that same location and it says E3VB 13A025

Oh, it could be a '5' but it's just enough out of focus to look like either.

that detroit iron shop manual came in the mail and sadly it contains nothing but parts numbers and exploded views of everything. No wiring diagrams or troubleshooting directions. Dang!!! I'm hoping you can come up with some detailed pics of the wires on those relays from you car.

I'll do that tomorrow. It was hot and muggy today, I was schvitzed by the time I'd finished installing the alt and regulator.

Okay, I got under the hood, and to my surprise, there are *five* total relays on that bracket! I suspect at least one is for the heated windshield system, and of course, one each for EEC power and FP power. The last one, I actually have no clue, but I'll take a look through the EVTM to identify the two extra relays.
What I can say, is that firstly, the EEC/FP relays are on the outside end of the black plastic housing's, away from the fender. The brown appears to be the EEC relay, and green the FP relay. The other 'green' one, and the aftermarket grey one, those I'll have to ID.

well, goes to show, that whoever installed that universal relay switched pin 30 and 86 around... so thats why the relay was always "active". Hoped that cured my overnight powerdrain, but nope. Moved on and found that, when i put the negative cable back on the battery, something still makes a clicking sound, although not very loud at all. Found it to be the internal voltage regulator on the alternator. I unplugged that thing and we'll see if the battery has drained in the morning. Come to think of it, the guy I bought it from, had mentioned that the alternator was bad. Since I found the alternator to be charging the battery as it should, when it should I thought nothing more of it.
