You have a second one just like it in the garage? It's apparently a later (post-1985) model as it has the high-mount brake light, but otherwise it looks identical. Regarding "engine knock," the term is typically applied to premature ignition causing the piston to rattle around in the cylinder. This would not likely be due to a bad bearing, and a misadjusted carburetor would make the engine run poorly but not necessarily knock. Knock is often due to improper timing, the use of too low an octane fuel, the engine running at too high a temperature, or carbon buildup in the cylinder reducing the volume and thus increasing the compression ratio. Carbon buildup could also lead to localized overheating, which can in turn, as noted, cause knocking. Adjusting the timing is fast, simple, and cheap, and you might try that if at all possible. If it fixes the problem, you could remove that caveat from your ad.
You could also look into Seafoaming the car to remove carbon buildup. I haven't done it with the vacuum intake on my Dad's caravan yet but part of the process includes dumping a bottle in the gas tank and some of another can into the crank case (With the engine cold) prior to an oil change.
It is a beautiful wagon! I hope it gets a good home and I agree, I love those full disc wheel covers!
What a beautiful wagon! Good luck finding her a good home. If the 307 is really dead, I would be tempted to look for a parts car with the Buick 350 in it. Should be a simple drop in, and that would really wake the old girl up, as well as giving better gas mileage! Wouldn't be very expensive to do, either.
Price drop to $800. If the engine really is shot, it's a wealth of parts for that price! http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/4459391000.html
It's worth the $800 I think especially with the new parts that I've added. All I get is spam from CL - I wish it would sell! My mechanic has been nice enough to store it for me but it can't stay there forever. -J.R.
