Looks like a decent wagon. Someone tell the seller that it is not a "Cutlass Classic." The VIN decodes as a 1977 Custom Cruiser, 2-seat. 403 V-8. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ctd/d/roseville-1977-oldsmobile-cutlass/7354304168.html
I doubt very much that a third seat was a dealer add-on. I'm sure that adding a third seat to a two-seat car required major surgery, and any dealer would have simply said, that if you want one of these with three seats, we'll be glad to sell you one.
I agree the logic would tell you the dealer would either order them one, or stroll them over to a three seat model from the get go. I don’t know what kind of “surgery” it would require to implant a third seat, but if your VIN decode shows it as a two seat model, short of the 3rd seat ferry blinking, and plunking it there, somebody did something. I know a lot of Ford/Merc guys will strip out the DFRS options and convert 6 passenger models. My point of the original post was that the VIN didn’t jive with what pictures we were looking at.
You're absolutely right. My apologies. I didn't notice the car's VIN. It does decode as a 2-seater. If this car has three seats, either the VIN is wrong, which seems unlikely, or the third seat has been added. Perhaps it isn't as difficult to add it as I thought. Of course, the car is actually a "Cutlass" as the ad says, so who knows where all the parts came from! Johnny Cash might be able to help. I always liked the last line of this song. "It's a 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54..."
