Hello, just found this site. Hopefully someone here can put me in contact with what is considered a reputable parts house for restoration parts. I own the car mentioned and have decided on a full frame off. It is a shme as the car is in great unrestored condition, but in 1972 the original owner panel painted over the original dover white paint, and it needs returned to its world points champion scheme. Hook me up!

So, how do we move you from the Dark side, AKA being without a wagon?

We've seen mid-60's Mustangs, 'vettes, made into wagons, but never a Camaro. Maybe when you get this baby done, you could take all the old parts and donor cars you need and build up a CamWagon? A FireCamWagon? A FireWagon? WagonBird?:D :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Heres a couple more. I have probably 200 pieces of documentation on this car. The original owner even kept contingency letters from sponsors. The original owner plans on taking it down the strip at Cordova dragway when completed.

Lead Sled. Never heard that used for a wagon. Sorry. Bricks, Long Roofs, Land Yachts, but never Lead Sled. huh...

So you're not restoring the Camaro?

That car museum is in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, home of the MacGlaughlin Buick, the big GMC Trucks, and Chevy Malibus and some 67, 68, 69 Camaro models. I grew up there.

Original owner told me that he was at a racetrack in 1969 and the car was blank on the sides. The commentator told him he needed a name for the car before he was to enter the staging lanes. He said Lead Sled was the first thing that entered his mind. Bone stock drivetrain from the factory is L-72 engine, turbo 400 trans, and 4:10 rear (which was changed to 4:56). With suspension changes, headers and slicks, his best time was a 12.41! Has the timeslip to prove it. Not bad for a 4500 pound vehicle. It is believed to be one of 2 L-72 wagons.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and I will be sure to post in process pics. I have had about 30 Yenko, Harrell, Motion and COPO cars, but this wagon for some reason has me mesmerized. What the.............:)

Stormin Norman............Nope, don't have one of the Harrell camaros. Matt Murphy has the 1968 Jim Kirby/Harrell funny car, Valerie Harrell has the 69 Harrell/Gibb funny car, Kim Howie has a 70 Gibb/Harrell race car, Joe Z. has the #1 ZL-1 Gibb/Harrell race car, and this Lead Sled, make 5 of the team cars found. To date, mine is the only team car authorized to carry the Harrell logo, besides Veleries car of course. The Lead Sled was the only white car, all the others were candy red. Tom Akin, said no way on red, with the blue interior. :)

Tom Akin has 8mm footage of every race he raced! He is going to let me have it transferred to DVD. Wonder if he will give up the Dick Harrell team jackets!?

    Refresh a Ford boys memory, an L72 is a 396 or 427?

I've always liked the look of those big Chevy wagons, especially the ones with the hide-away headlights and woodgrain.

I'd love to do one of those with a supercharged 572 and a 6 spd, 4 wheel discs, 18" wheels and power everything inside.

The car raced at Neita raceway in Cedar Falls Iowa, but.........being a Harrell team car, and winning the points championship required him to travel the country. If you guys want to see a cool video of it, get into google search, type in 1969 Lead Sled Mecum, and the car will come up. There is a video you can click on, as well as a write up. Thanks for the welcome! Dave
