Almost everything has been sorted out to fire this up (finally!)

    - Oil is in and so is the coolant, and no leaks either place.
    - Brake lines are run, and the new disc brake block is in place.
    - The new transmission lines have been run.
    - The inner fender wells are hung so I can mount the battery and new ignition.
    - Power steering lines are run, and the return line has been modified for the Eaton pump.
    - Radiator hoses have been run (had to do custom steel flex-hoses ... yuck!)

Left to do before starting the car...

    - Finish cleaning, repairing and retaping the engine compartment harness.
    - Hook up electrical in engine compartment.
    - Finish running fuel line and fuel pump.
    - Add trans fluid and check for leaks.
    - Hook up Jacobs Electronics ignition.

    - Turn key and hope is starts!

Fingers crossed! Also, don't forget to have the camera running when you turn that key the first time! We want to see and hear the old girl run for the first time!

Hooked up the electrical in the engine compartment, but not the ignition. Also have held off on hooking up the fuel. When I hooked up the battery, the dash lights were on, so after a little checking, I think the headlight switch may be bad.

When I tried the key I got nothing. Did a little more checking and realized that I hadn't rewired the neutral safety switch in from the floor shifter after eliminating it from the column. Whoops!

Had to splice in the connector, but that was no problem. Hooked it back up again, and ... nothing. Pulled the neutral safety switch and realized it was missing a return spring and that it was not properly adjusted. So, I put the car in park ... manually set the switch ... turned the key and ... it cranked over! Woo hoo!

No I just need to finish wiring in the new ignition, mount the electric fuel pump in the new location, run a temporary fuel line, and fire it up. I hope to do that this weekend, but tomorrow I am off to Onondaga Drag Strip (opened again after 35 years) just north of Jackson, Michigan to watch the cars go by. Last race day for the season.

Hope to have good news Sunday night. Thanks all!

Just finished rebuilding the neutral safety switch. The floor shift switch was damaged and missing parts. I was able to disassemble the column shift switch and swap in the parts. Add a little dielectric grease to keep this one working smoothly for a while, and it is ready to return to service!

The ignition instructions said "mount to a flat surface at least 8" long by 5" wide." I challenge you to find that amount of space clear, and still reach everything else with their harnesses (which really aren't short!)

And for the record, that P/S hose is NOT laying across the header as it looks in the photo. I will be putting heat wrap around it just the same.

Hey Rev! Only rain. I didn't end up heading out. I have a buddy who lives about 20 minutes away, and I don't think they ran because of the weather.

Going to have to wait for next year, but I should have the wagon for that trip!

Finished all plumbing, electrical and mechanical to test fire the engine. I turned on the electric pump (same as was on when I started) and it spewed gas from every connection.

    Doh!

Now I'm waiting on my new regulator...

Regulator came, but fittings didn't, so I ran up to the local hardware store and picked up some fittings. After bending new fuel line from the pump to the carb, adding the regulator, establishing that the rear float had a leak and circumventing it, and capping all of the unused vacuum ports, I finally got a chance to try to start the car ... and it runs!

Definitely need to do some tuning, but very pleased with how well it ran for an initial start. Held around 40-45 PSI oil pressure at idle and the temp didn't go over 190.

Still a long ways off from a road test, but I'll take it!

Sounds very promising indeed! That's great news! Always a fantastic thing when the engine runs for the first time.

Paul! Paul! I read it all, and started drooling so bad that my keyboard is too slick to type with! How does it run! How many mustangs do you keep in the rearview mirror!?!?! Come on!:biglaugh::lolup::D

Wow! What an adventure! I did all my work without a garage, the last time. This time, I'm building a demountable one to keep the city inspectors happy. My property isn't big enough to have a real garage. Hoping to buy the lot next door, when the house falls down. Their roof is starting to cave in...

    Gorgeous work Paul.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
