Not posting this in Welcome forum, don't want scare anyone away but have noticed over the past few months that a lot of folks that post in the Welcome section appear to be thrilled to join but then never heard from again. Went back to page 5 and a quick number count - Did not include any recent (July on) joining members - out of the past 51 people that joined 26 of them never came back after 60 days with an average post of 4. Why did they bother? or are we chasing them away?
Good question..... Some join ONLY to list a wagon they have for sale. I believe you have to make 5 (?) posts before you can list in the 'Wagons / Parts For Sale' section. As to other reasons why we're not getting some repeat postings, I dunno... Are we being unfriendly or perhaps too friendly? On my part, I haven't dropped into the Welcome Wagon and posted greetings as often as I should.......
Are you implying that we have become boring? Although, the members who used to post ten years ago seem to be somewhat livelier than many active today. And now with Denny in domestic prison, that's even one less
Some like me just like looking at the pictures. not in a position to buy right now, but in the future. Son is a HS senior, and I'm getting ready to start paying some university a lot of money over the next , 4 years. This is a site I look at every day.
You probably never hear from me but I check the "recent posts" all the time. I hardly ever log-in or post anything. I just like reading the posts and seeing the other wagons that are out there in the world. So, it could be that many folks are like me and are still around but aren't visible.
I don't think it has anything to do with being friendly or unfriendly. I think it has more to do with what they find being discussed here. It's mostly station wagons for sale or pictures of old station wagons, old factories, or whatever like that. I think that's interesting, but others might not. Also, just because there is a shared interest in station wagons doesn't automatically translate to being able to give assistance and advice to someone who has an issue with his wagon. If I want advice on servicing, say, the engine on my '73 Custom Cruiser, unless someone here is knowledgeable about Oldsmobile engines of that era, I'm more likely to find the help I need on an Oldsmobile site, not a station wagon site. Just because all of the cars discussed here are station wagons doesn't mean they automatically have a great deal in common, mechanically-speaking. It's much more an enthusiast site than a mechanical-assistance site.
Most people are probably reading the site but just don't talk much but would like the chance to talk if they see something that really interests them. Or they just like to join something
One hit wonder was my nickname in high school! Haha. Could just be human nature. Same reason lots of people start a project, quickly lose interest and never finish. Also I suspect, judging by the wording of some of the posts that alcohol is involved. Late night surfing the web they stumble across the sight then forget all about it the next day. I have a couple of apps on my phone where you can sell your junk. I get 2am inquiries all the time that never come to fruition. I suspect for the same reasons
I would never dream of selling my junk. But then again, it might still be worth more than my liver. Sometimes, it's better to just sleep it off: https://twitter.com/i/status/1165344318523138048
