They have a parrot, actually. She rants at the Brothers in Law! Hijo de la chingada. (not very nice, especially if their mothers are around. One of the BILs taught her, and none of the wives bothered to untrain her.
Hey, Norm....I was referring to YOUR joke........ http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10705
So was I... Smart bird, actually, when my Mother In Law brings food or cleans her cage, she whistles and says, "Mamacita, gracias!" Always makes her chuckle. No Ian, look at the Cat Burglar post - SF's link. The old boxer died a few days after my wife's dad passed on. I was the only guy that he didn't attack, along with the Father In Law. The other males were scared to death of him. Big golden crossbreed. We were buds.
she's put up with you for 15 years???? she deserves a medal...never mind cake congrats Normy...tell the wife congarts for me too
Let me tell ya, so do I! When I met her, I knew English, French, Latin and ancient Greek. As she got on the airplane to go back home, on August 5, 1995, I went to Future Shop and bought a Learning Spanish program that gave me sound feedback and a reversible Text translation program. Still have them. By the time I got to Monterrey to ask for her hand, I knew the language enough to jabber along, but not converse. Came down with my dictionary though. During the day, I'd stay at her home, while she was at work. Hardly spoke with her mom or dad, just the dog and the parrot. One morning, her dad comes to see me on their patio, with this monster Larousse English/Spanish dictionary. He never spoke English, before. He says, in perfect English, "You don't speak Spanish, and I don't speak English, so how will we talk?" Shock of shocks! I stood up and answered him in Spanish! I said, "Si usted puede hablar Ingles, yo si puedo hablar Espanol!" He hugged me, and said, "Bienvenido a la familia! Vamonos a celebrar!" She, on the otherhand, managed to say Canadian and Canada. ESL didn't happen for 6 more years. 6 months later, after living in Vancouver, her old boss called her to see if she could help them with another one of their factories in Guadalajara. I could handle my software clients via the internet anyway, so we went. Got a work visa in Mexico and worked for a Canadian/Mexican/American plastics conglomerate, managing their international computer and mainframe network for 5 years. Her job was about to dry up, so we came back to Winterpeg. Cheapest Canadian city to live in, then. Not really bad, yet. She loved it. She calls it a pueblo (village), compared to Vancouver or Toronto, at least in the North end. South of Portage Avenue, it's a rat race. Used to be that Rush Hour was 20 minutes long. Now, its 90 minutes. I often wonder which half of the conversation did I miss, but here we are. Thanks Rev and all, once again.
Thanks Ian. She'll appreciate it. She keeps razzing me about 'my other love', the SWF! But she loves the wagons.
My wife found a new name (to me anyway) for the USA. Apparently, its the latest fad for Mexican shoppers south of Texas - GringoLandia! I can see some smart marketer naming a Mall in Laredo or Houston. Sheezus H! Anyway, she's shopping Hell's half acre for stuff in Laredo, again, then in Central Mexico tomorrow. Bus rides are cheap, in nice big Dino double deckers with Air and in-flight movies too.
Thanks guys. This all started cause I realized our marriage is just a teenager. Trouble is I get all the zits.
Heee Norm, congratulations on your anniversary!! I hope to reach the same time, but even more, the same spirit as you two have!!! Although.... I still have no classic wagon.....
