    Wow....

    http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/1956585050.html

1962 Pontiac Catalina hearse in excellent original, unrestored condition. Hearse conversion by Cotner-Bevington Corp. (C.-B.), done on a standard '62 Pontiac Catalina Safari wagon without stretching the wheelbase. This hearse is from a small town in Missouri and is very well preserved, with a very good original body and only 49,000 original miles.

Interior is in like-new condition. Seats, door panels, and headliner are all original with no rips or tears. Interior includes C.-B. modifications such as curtain rods, fabric curtains on the windows, and a casket rack. Atop the casket rack rests a genuine 3/4-size wooden casket.

Driveline is the original 389-V8 with a manual 3-speed transmission. Car runs and drives well. Brakes work fine with new master cylinder recently installed.

Only option is factory air conditioning (compressor works but A/C does not blow cold). No power steering, no power brakes, radio delete. A working spotlight is installed on the left side of the hearse.

Original dealer invoice/window sticker included, and a stack of yearly registrations and insurance cards from the original owner (funeral home) is included.

This hearse has been driven over 500 miles this past summer... it's totally reliable and runs/drives excellent.

    $10000/offer.

That's a pretty car for a hearse. This one has a 3 spd manual tranny, no power steering, no power brakes, radio delete and they want $10K. Not gonna happen. Hearses don't bring the money and this one, pretty as it is, does not have enough optional equipment to justify that price. I'm not a hearse guy at all, anyway, but I have watched many of them and they just don't bring the money.

It's not worth $10K to me, but it is a nice example if that's what you are into...

I agree, teej....that's a nice looker. Especially for a hearse....put togther nicely. And I love the 62 Poncho wagon body style. I suppose there are guys out there into hearses and Ponchos that would love to have this one. Still...my bet is that this car won't go off at near the asking price.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it up and saw that it was silver instead of black, but it's still a hearse. Kind of rare that it had a 3 speed manual with no ps/pb. The owner of that funeral home must've been cheap as they come, which would explain why it's a Poncho and not a Caddy. Nice example, though.

Very pretty car, though kinda strange not having power steering. Given that all funeral driving is at slow speeds and plenty of slow speed turns at the funeral home and gravesite. Weird since 'wonder-touch' probably cost $75 or less.

it looks very nice being silver.doesn't seem very dignified that a 60s hearse has a 3 speed manual.the rounded rear corners and it being silver reminded me of an old airstream!

That is a very clean sharp looker. This is just my theory on this low option, looks more like a ambulance, hearse.......it's location when new maybe? As a kid I was taken to every funeral that happened and for the most part we lived in the city. It was allways fancy Cadilacs as hearses and limos for funeral homes. Apx 1976 our family atteneded a funeral in a some what rural part of northern Manitoba Canada. The hearse was for sure a 64 Impala and the limo car was a 66/7 Pontiac. Remember back then $ did mean alot more than today in some ways, maybe this old hearse is from a rural part of the US origonally where said owners of the funeral home just could'nt justify the cost of a more upscale optioned Poncho, or upscale model to begin with.

Hey Dan. Do me a favor. When I die, tell my family I want to go to the cemetery in one of your beauties. They're gorgeous.
Come to think of it, I don't want any cars in the procession unless it has a long roof.

Not a bad idea, snoot! I'd take a last ride in my choice of Dan's hearses. Like the long roof funeral procession, too! Except....there won't be any people to drive the cars for a procession at my funeral.:biglaugh:

Sold the 69 to a funeral home back east for just that reason. If your are a hearse guy you will get the second pic. It is incredible how much work was done to manufacture these , the Caddys where deliverd with just fenders and hoods and the 1/4 panels and rear bumper in a box the rest is all built by the coach builder .
