    Hi!

Driving 50 miles out of my way tomorrow to a junk yard that claims to have a 1990 police package crown vic.

I'm pulling the rear sway bar off of it for sure, but while I'm at the car, anything else I should pull off that will be tougher than the stock version for my 1990 colony park? I don't have to install it tomorrow... but can certainly keep it on hand.

    thanks!

this is a good idea and all but i would never get parts off of a used law enforcement car. the reason i wouldn't is because i know these officers usually run thier cars into the ground. but this is all my own opinion.

Lots of hard parts are heavy duty, like the sway bars, springs, and are great finds.
Other items like differentials and quick-ratio steering gears are great for rebuilding.
Heavy duty cooling and electrical systems have some parts to offer.
Personally, I'd try to get the rubber carpet if it's any good. The one in my Caprice 9C1 is in excellent shape.

Rear sway bar and the rear lower control arms with spacers, bolts, nuts, etc. Steering box is the same as your car. Upgrade to the '97+ steering box if you are looking for an upgrade. Since you already have the wagon your front sway bar should be at least as big as the police car. My car has the external oil cooler and an external trans cooler. If they are there and in good shape they might be worth the grab. Engine and computer are identical to what you have in your wagon. The rear end you have in your wagon probably has better gears than the police car depending on how it was optioned. Mine came with an open 2.73. I actually got a Trak-Lok 3.55 rearend from a wagon in a junkyard. On the driver's side door jamb look for the code under "AX". The codes escape me at this point, but "K" is the 3.55 Trak-Lok.

Front upper control arms have bearings instead of bushings for their pivots, but not worth the time in my opinion.

Mine has a steel driveshaft. I do believe the Grand Marquis more commonly got the aluminum driveshaft for what it's worth. In fact I've only seen aluminum driveshafts on the Grand Marquis.

Supposedly the police cars got the 11" rear drums. Mine actually had the smaller rear drums and my wagon rear end had the bigger drums. If you really want to upgrade the rear brakes I would look into the '92+ rear disc brakes which are just about a direct bolt on.

The speedometer should fit your car, but it will have the black back ground. I believe the Grand Marquis had the silver background speedo.

Overall the police package cars of that era weren't terribly spectacular and really didn't deviate from the civilian cars too much.
