I’m glad I found this forum. I love wagons. When I was a kid, in the ’50s and ’60s, my dad was a salesman. He always had to carry around samples and displays, so he usually drove a station wagon or sedan delivery. The wagons I remember were a ’52 Rambler, ’54 Studebaker, ’55 Chevy sedan delivery, ’58 Ford sedan delivery, ’64 Valiant, ‘67 Ford and ‘70 Impala. They were work cars. When we went somewhere as a family, we almost always took Mom’s car. When I got my license, I was made to drive the wagon when I went somewhere. Mom didn’t trust a rookie driving her hardtop. I finally talked Dad into buying me my own car, a convertible. I was convinced that I would never have to drive a wagon again. In the ‘70s I bought me a ‘56 Nomad . Later I bought another ‘56 Nomad, a ‘57 Bel Air 4 door wagon and a ’57 Chevy sedan delivery. So the kind of cars I couldn’t stand to drive in the past, are my favorite kind of car now. I sold the first Nomad a few years ago. The other Nomad and the sedan delivery need to be restored. The BelAir wagon is a fun driver. It has the stock 283 V8 engine, three speed trans., bucket seats, console, Hurst shifter and rally wheels.
...sometimes I think I'm the only one here that came by my wagaddiction on my own.. No one in my family ever had wagons...till me nice collection you got there Tabasco to our home for wayward wagons
Nice cars Tabasco. I've always liked the color combo. I sold a '55 Bel Air convert to buy my wagon. It needed to be restored so I figured if I was going to put my hard earned dollars into a car I'd spend them on the wagon. It is kind of fun to be carrying on the family tradition don't you think? Mind you, there are others who are making the family tradition and I think they too deserve a pat on the back - especially if they happen to drop the keys to one of their finer '58 Edsel wagons into your hand at the same time. So welcome - and about that avatar - is there a special meaning behind the Tabasco?
to the wagon train, Tab! I'm getting red X's where your pix should be. The cars came up but no wagons. Might just be my puter acting up.
Thanks everyone for the welcome. For almost 40 years I worked as a food broker selling groceries to grocery stores. I have sold nearly every brand name at one time or another. I sold Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce for over 13 years. I also eat Tabasco Sauce everyday, so I made it my username. Here is a pic of my wagon. I have owned it since June 1982. I am the third owner. It could use new paint and upholstery, but it runs well and is a good driver. Here is the Nomad I sold a few years ago. I owned it for over 25 years.
It is interesting how folks come up with their Avatars. Hmmmm, maybe a thread? As for your wagons what can I say but Love them both. I'd have to slit my wrists before I could part with a Nomad that nice and those colors. That and the turquoise are my preferred for the 567's but the color of yours is the only one I've never had on any of my vehicles (yet).
Welcome Tabasco. What is the color of the Nomad? It looks like "root beer" but a bit redder. It sure works though. I love a 2-tone car.
Yea, I still have them. The guy who bought it had a one-off set of billet wheels made for it. He didn't want those old obsolete wire wheels.
I sold it because my wife and I were selling our place in town and building a new house on our land in the country. I used the money from the Nomad to build me an 1800 sq. ft. workshop and a septic tank. Besides, I still have another one. It is not quite as nice as the one I sold, but it could be with a little work. Here it is.
