I'm working on a Ford F-350 Wrecker. The guy said it is a '69 and the title says '69, but the Grille says it's a '72. I got the numbers off of the Drivers Door and it looked it up in the Engine Info section in my Hollander Interchange and it tells me a whole lot of things, but not the year of the truck. Trying to figure out if it's actually a '72 or a '69 with a '72 Grille. Any info would be appreciated.

I would think that if the title says it's a '69, then it's a '69. Anyone can bolt on a different year grill.

Right, but is there anyway of proving it by the numbers?

By the way, I heard it would fit, but do you know if the '72 Grille will fit right into (or on) the '69 Front End?

Do the numbers on the door show the VIN? Does it match the title? If they don't, then the door may have been changed. Post up pics and let us take a look.

Krash, the Door VIN does match the title, but many times the year of vehicles, especially trucks, can get mixed up somehow.

Ed, PM on the way. Thanks.

Ed, If you're wondering what happened to my posting, it got moved to here. Evidently I posted it in the wrong place. Altho a mistake on my part, it did get some good exposure while it was there and from that I was able to locate the info I was looking for.

The truck is a '69. Evidently someone changed the grille some time thru the years.

Silverfox, If you (or anyone else out there) would like to see some great info on Ford Truck Decoding info, click here: http://www.fordification.com/tech/vin.htm

,,,k,,,so you got her all figured eh?

the cool thing about Ford...is that everything has a part number on it...well almost everything:yup:

the first 'letter' will signify the 'decade' the part is from...the following number...will be the year....in other words...

    lets say the part#...is C4^&^$

    the C...identifys the 60's...the 4...is the 4th year

Ford started this in the 40's...the 40's being 'A'....50's = 'B'...60's='C'...so on so on....
    so....C9??????....wil be ...1969....:yup:

    got it?....good!....there will be a test later:rofl2:

    Rev,

Appreciate the info. Maybe you could help us out with the engine. I was told that it is a 360, but to the right of the Water Pump, facing it (actually on the Drivers Side) is "352". I was told the there should be a tag on the bolt under the Dipstick Tube, but if it is misssing where or how could I determine the year of the engine?

the only way.. for sure.. to ID the motor... is to drop the starter...then up on the block right above the oil pan should be the part#....then just run that thru that site you found ...or pull #1 plug...crank it over a full rotation while measuring the stroke...all the FE motors look the same:whew:
352-428... are a pain to identify the difference

but the heads(with covers off)...will have the proverbial..C???????....as will the intake....and you can guess what the block is from there:D
assuming no ones screwed with parts here and there:)

in case you decide to try the stroke ordeal:49:
    .........................bore....................stroke..................

I'll check it out with the info you provided.
