Hi - I've often thought of joining in here over the years and have finally decided to take the plunge. I'm in Ontario, Canada and a big fan of, ahem, small wagons. As you can see (or maybe not) from my avatar, I WAS once the proud owner of a 2004 Focus ZTW in black, 2.0 liter Zetec engine and 5-speed manual transmission, as well as a 2001 version of the same car. Without a doubt, the most practical and fun cars I've ever owned. Sadly, I had to trade the '04 in for three important reasons:

    • It was sideswiped
    • The lease ran out
    • I was unemployed.

I bought a lousy 3-door hatchback instead, as the sporty ZTW option was dropped in 2005 with the lame-ass redesign. I have a small child and a lot of musical equipment - what was I thinking?

Anyhow, I'm here to lament my loss, look to the future and maybe make some new friends. You'll soon find out I'm obsessed with whether or not Ford intends to bring back the wagon bodystyle with their soon-to-be-released 2011 (or 2012) Focus. My money is on "not", but here's to surprises and happy endings.... (y)

Hey there. I decided to buy a wagon because I too have a bunch of gear to haul around.
But since I was less concerned about bodystyle than function I bought a 30yr. old Fairmont!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not a native - from 6 hours west of here, but it's growing on me. The steady employment keeps me here. Going skating this weekend! Would sure be easier to pile everyone into a, you know... :slap:

Have a hot chocolate for me on the canal. Love the way they spoil folks on the 'Second Longest' river skating rink in the world. (dig, dig ).

6 hours west, that's gotta be near Hamilton or London, Ontario.

Andy and I are the Prairie Fairmont Admiration society. :biglaugh: He owns two of these fine wagons, so he has veto power. I never get backbenched though! :biglaugh:

I may get myself banned if I told you what my brother and I think of the uh, "handsome" Ford Fairmont. Remember the coupe - the Futura? I think the comment was along the lines of - if that's the look of the "Future", you can count me out.

I'm "Mustanging" mine. Dash is already done. Suspension has been beefed up, and I'm scrounging around for a Turbo I4 with a 5-speed stick. MPG, HP and less weight than a Mustang!:rofl2:

Well Mr. ZTW...:Welcome:I think. I'm not so sure about the above comment as I have a really "handsome" 82 Cougar wagon. An upgraded version of the Zephyr, a close brother to the fine Fairmonts you'll find on this great forum.

However, you need to get out and just buy a used ZTW, don't wait for new they may never happen. Just do it! We like all wagons here.

Yikes - not trying to upset any apple carts here.

I vaguely recall the '82 Cougar Wagon....!?

$35,000 price tag! For a hood ornament and steel bumpers and a two-piece tailgate, and map-pockets? Yeah, sounds fair...:rofl2:

TBird, your sitting in a fortune, pal. Or that guy is smokin' some weird stuff. I do like that side molding though.

ZTW, we're into the Art of Wagons, but there's always a remnant of brand pride, lurking deep down. Us Ford guys can stand tall. Our horse didn't go to the Government trough.:rofl2:

On the GS the side molding is supposed to be body color. Mine was refinished in black before I got it. It's supposed to be light blue. But I think the real price is $3,500.

Is it a plastic molding? The 1981-2 Futura, Villager and Marquis wagons have the polished aluminum trim. Me like Mucho. The woodgrain is nice, but parking lot neighbours seem to forget about mine.

It's sorta hard rubber. It can be painted quite nicely with the SEM paint. If I ever get around to doing body work it my get done.

I agree with the OP....Ford was STUPID for discontinuing the Focus wagon! I would like to have one myself. They are a fun car, look cool, get good mileage and you can make them GO! My kind of wagon. :D
And....by the way...if that White Cougar wagon shown is still for sale I will TAKE it!
