Looks strange without the body side molding running the full length of the car. Did Ford do that or is it aftermarket?

For a '66 Galaxie 500 trim level, that's the way the factory did it. They wanted to 'accentuate the positive', so-to-speak, which was the 'Coke bottle' kick up just before the quarter panel.
For reference, here's how they trimmed the top-of-the-line LTD:

Looking at pics of other '66 Galaxie 500's on the internet, it appears as if that side molding was optional - not seeing it on all the cars......

Ahhh…I see it now. There is a body line stamped into the sheet metal that only runs to the rear of the rear door…I’ve never noticed it before. The wagon above seems to have a chrome strip mounted on that line and the LTD doesn’t…so it accentuates the fact that the body line doesn’t run the entire length of the car. I’m used to seeing these without the chrome so that’s how I never noticed the body line before. Interesting

It’s interesting if you look at the mid line cars, Impalas, BelAir, same with Galaxies and Customs a lot of them, especially the Impalas almost always had the chrome moldings along the body line. The big molding on the Caprice was the rocker molding, like the LTD. The Caprice used pin strip along that body line to accentuate it. I liked the chrome clad Impalas for body protection.

Such good looking cars. I have always liked the stacked quad headlight look. Popular as we all know on Pontiacs in the 60s. Of course I loved the Chevy Malibu’s and Monte Carlo’s from 76 to 77. Still have a 77 Monte Carlo in my collection. I even bought a 2019 Silverado because of that look.
