One-Family-Owned 1976 Pontiac LeMans Sport Coupe for sale on BaT Auctions - ending September 6 (Lot #83,618) | Bring a Trailer So what was the difference in 76 between a Lemans Sports Coupe and a Grand Prix?
Personally, I prefer the look of the Le Mans front clip over the Grand Am but also the Grand Am dashboard that was also included in the Grand Le Mans models. Nice, but I find it an odd choice of color for a "sport" model.
The Grand Prix is on the full size G Body platform. The Le Mans and Grand Am are both variants of the mid size A Body platform.
Grand Prix was a stretched A chassis (commonly called a G, but I don't think it was officially one until the 1978-1987 era) and was heftier and cost a bit more. Styling differences like the doors and door panels were different, roofline and trunk were different\bigger, and I believe the base engine was bigger in the Grand Prix - although by this era it probably wasn't as you could get a 301 in 1977.
With a gold exterior? Not a good match, IMHO. Too bad it couldn't have a cloth seat, with some Seventies cloth motif.
I'm not a fan of the color, but I like the bucket seat, center console configuration. Was that shaker scoop hood a factory option?
Ah, that wasn't clear, I thought it was red or white interior with gold exterior. Now, gold exterior with a black interior is quite doable.
