No Reserve: 1966 Chevrolet Impala 3-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending September 17 (Lot #55,409) | Bring a Trailer
My father had the use of a 1965 Biscayne 4 door sedan when he was working as a bookkeeper to supplement his Army retirement. It had been white, with a turquoise cloth interior. The owner of the company had it painted an ugly tomato red, to match the equipment of the company. It came with standard steering, brakes, three on the tree, six cylinder, standard radio w/o buttons, dog dish hubcaps, and factory in dash air. Outside of that awful paint, it was kind of a neat car. I hope this one goes to somebody who'll keep it original.
Don't know what is more surprising, the fact that a 65 Chevy 6 cyl 3 on the tree 4dr post has been cared for some 55+ years, or the fact that it has a stereo, a/c and full wheel covers. Guess it was optioned up because it was an Impala and the cardboard door cards and upholstery had a little more sparkly trim on them than what you would find on the Bel Aires and Biscaynes below. Learned to drive on a 65 white Biscayne with red interior, also a 6 with 3 on the tree, no a/c and maybe no radio . Drivers ed course was conducted by the High school I attended and taught by teachers after class. Have fond memories of that big white Chevy, hope this survivor is appreciated by it's new owners and kept original.
What an oddly optioned car, it does have power steering, but manual brakes. It does have tinted glass and custom seat belts though. Also it is the 2nd 66 GM product I have seen with a red interior and a White head liner & sail panels. The other was a GTO.
Those are actually SS wheelcovers I think. I’m betting this baby came with dog dish. Don’t know if he mentioned it but I would guess it’s had a full repaint as the fender emblems and wheel opening moldings are missing, which the Impala model would have had. The interior is in stunning.
Chevrolet had stereo FM in 1965 and '66, but I bet this radio is mono AM-FM with a rear speaker, that's why they claim it's stereo.
Yeah this looks like standard issue Delco AM radio. I know on the coupes the speaker would have been in the middle of the back seat under a chrome speaker panel.
Believe you may be right. A six with three on the tree just calls out for dog dishes. Glad to see car went for a good price, maybe that gives it a better chance of being well cared for.
