Least popular Thunderbird design ever? 1981 Ford Thunderbird - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... (craigslist.org)
These early 1980s cars were so bland and underwhelming. This one isn't much different and even comes in early '80s tan!
I'm a little surprised that the asking price is that high. Despite all of the positive attributes this car may have, it's just not very interesting. It is in fact, as elB pointed out, bland.
Seller may want to rethink the price in about a month when he still has it - and I'm betting he will still have it.
The price is debatable, but it's clean, straight, rust free, and...bland. Perfect. It is a blank canvas. You can do a ton with this car with readily available aftermarket parts to make it into a real performer. I'd rather have this over a similar era Mustang which is basically what this is. No half vinyl top is a plus. I even like the dorky bench seat that I have never seen in one of these before.
Yeah its basic issue. No cruise, AM, cranskers, and by the looks of the wiper stalk I would bet no intermittent wipers either. Would love to see the Marti report. Bet it was a stock order, loss leader hook to get em in the door. Nice car, condition, as stated, but it’s just a T-Bird for the guy that wanted that mark.
Kevin, you're certainly right about it being a blank canvas and I agree that it could actually be turned into something quite unique. I kind of dig it just for that reason. It's not something you see every day. I just wouldn't pay that much for it personally. But I can't agree with the Mustang statement. I'd take an 80's 5.0 FoxStang over this any day of the week.
Fair enough, but they are the exact same car under the skin. The Thunderbird is stretched a few inches. Other than that they are identical. I cannot stand Mustangs though so there is that.
I know. Kinda like the Fairmont. The world needs all types of car enthusiasts. that's what makes it interesting. I love all Mustangs. My favorites are the classics from the first generation, but as kid that grew up in the 80's, the Fox platform Mustang will always hold a special place in my car loving heart.
I had an '80, 302, loaded, and I was very impressed. If I hadn't split the front end on a power pole, I might still have it, I don't know. But I could get in and out without trouble, it had dual power seats so I was comfy inside, I loved the manual removable sun/moonroof, Premium Sound, etc., etc.
