Somebody on a Facebook page posted a clip from an Instagram page, showing a 'period photo' taken at the 1982 Street Machine Nationals. The photo is of a 1971 Pontiac clamshell wagon, turned into a sedan delivery, with a high-rise hood and full custom paint. Does anyone remember seeing this vehicle? Google doesn't seem to know about it, so I doubt it still exists.
I haven't either, and red markings on yellow were quite popular in the early-to-mid Eighties for customized GM cars.
Looking at the photo a little more closely, I'm now wondering whether it was made from a 'clamshell' at all. That door on the right side sure looks like it's a '2-door length', and it doesn't appear to have a window frame for it. This thing MAY have been made from a 2-door hardtop or convertible........ windshield's been cut down too....
That was kind of what I thought when I initially looked at it. Gotta love those cheesy flip up sunroofs.
I agree...probably made from a 2 door model. In those days you could walk into ANY junkyard and saw off the top of your choice of many clamshells
Regardless what it was made out of, looks like a lot of welding in the back..vans were the rage then and who needs a van when youve got this! I love it!
