Man I loved those commercials. It was lines like this that made them memorable.

This circa 1962 image contains a boat-shaped Standard Oil Company service station located at Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco, CA. It was located on the Northeastern waterfront area on Taylor St. opposite Alioto’s Waterside Cafe that opened in 1925 and the Fishermans Grotto founded in 1935. The building facing Taylor St. is a shed located in front of Pier 45. The Gasoline station that has not survived at now is a Fishermans Wharf parking lot.

^^^ Wondering what sort of event THAT was.....?
People came prepared to cook/eat at their vehicles, and some brought shade coverings with them, so probably an all-day event, I would think. Can't figure out the PURPOSE, though.

Well since it looks like 1957 I would say it was during the Asian Flu pandemic (H2N2) and people were not allowed to eat in restaurants. So. They had to social distance and eat out of the backs of their respective cars. Ya think people 60 years from now will see the same modern picture and know that? Lol actually I would say it is some sort of grilling event.

I believe it is a shooting tournament. The covered area is where the shooting benches are. The targets would be down range, to the left out of the picture. I can't tell for certain, but I am pretty sure that's what is going on.

Think you are right OrthmannJ. Am going to take a better look at the photo when the desktop gets open. Would love to have that 55 Chevy 2dr in the foreground, or any of the Pontiacs, or the Merc, or the Study, or just about any of them.

It is a shooting event. I just got back from the National Muzzleloading Championships at Friendship, Indiana. It's a weeklong event. I left on Weds. The flash flood hit on Friday nite. The red in the foreground is where we used to camp, but this year we moved to the red in the upper above it. Not shown in the picture are two huge flea markets at either end and another campground that attract 1000's of visitors during the week.

That would be a typical group of cars that were around when I was a kid. I could name just about every car by brand. If I got stumped on one, I would study on it to learn it for the next time. I always stayed involved with cars through the years and now, I can hardly name any of them, lol. Of course cars today hardly hold any interest to me.
