That looks like a road trip to remember.

Yup. Both the '59 Catalina Safari and the Buick Special above it seem to have been highly prepared for long trips.

I'm noticing details on the Buick Special - What appear to be 'step recesses' just below the rear bumper; Window screens to block light (and bugs with the door glass down); A full-width mud flap; And notice he's on a gravel road! I'd guess this old guy is on a long-term solo trip.

As to the '59 Catalina, a weel-prepared family, no doubt. I'm seeing a CB radio antenna; Lots of luggage up top; Maybe even a trailer-towing mirror strapped to the right front door (?); Also noting what might be special tires - dual thin whitewalls!

Fron the previous page - '60 Mercury wagon with an observatory in the background...

I think this might be Mount Palomar Observatory, located in north San Diego County, Calif.
Some years ago, the shiny silver part was painted white........

Re 71150. That 58 Chevy looks possibly brand new and they were still using it to truck a piece of furniture. Makes me wince but could see my father or any of my uncles doing that withhout a second thought.
