Sort of looks like somewhere in California, but I can't read the freeway exit sign up ahead. ( [something] Torrance Dr. ?)Theorizing based on what I can see, I'd speculate that a wrong-way driver was in the Grand Prix, and the Matador wagon driver perhaps hit him head-on. Matador driver MAY have been a Fire Department Captain - sort of looks like a Fire Department captain's vehicle, with the seal on the door. I won't speculate on what happened to the occupants, but it doesn't look good.........

Just guessing but looks like the accident was off the Harbor Fwy (110) at Torrance Blvd. The Matador was a Los Angels Co FD (Commander of some sort) vehicle for sure. Very sad photo.

I don't think so, Ranger. I'm familiar with that stretch of the 110, and it's primarily a 'raised' freeway along there, not sunken down below ground level as in our photo. It looks to me a lot like parts of the 60 (Pomona) freeway, between downtown LA and the 605. I can't pin down the exact location though. That exit sign saying '(something) Torrance' has me puzzled.

I GOT IT! It's not (something) Torrance, it's City Terrace Drive, on the San Bernardino Freeway, just east of downtown LA....... Here it is today...... 10 Freeway EB before City Terrace.2.jpg

Nice work Mr Columbo! You wonder where the car going the wrong way hopped on. That was sure a mess.

I'd like to find the story on this one. I wouldn't put it past a LAFD Captain to intentionally crash with the wrong-way driver to prevent him/her from hitting and possibly killing someone else. Pretty sure the Fire Department driver didn't make it out of this one. The Grand Prix driver MAY have survived.

I agree. I never cared for them either, but was a big fan of AMT. I probably built about 50 of them from about 8 to 15. That's when I switched to the real ones, lol.
