Hey all, thanks for the add. A little intro. I'm a hard core car guy (Heck,I was on American Pickers a couple of years ago! "Texas Pick 'em" episode). I'm basically a Ford guy, but have LOTS of projects. Current projects include a 73 Bronco, early Hemi 32 roadster, 72 GMC Sierra Grande, 23 T Bracket Altered, Flathead 28 nostalgia Roadster, 55 chevy gasser, 25 Nash Fairground Racer, 84 U-Haul Camper, 60 Duraliner Aluminum CabinCruiset, etc, etc... I just sold a 65 Fairlane wagon and bought a 66 Galaxie Ranch Wagon. It had been torn down to install a timing set back in 1983, but the owner got to feeling bad, went inside and died! The new parts were in the car, so I installed them and got it up an running (kinda... VERY low compression, even though the smoke stopped very quickly). Current problem is that I can't keep the rear tailgate glass in the lower channel. What glue, butyl tape, sealant, or? do you use to install it correctly? Welcome aboard Judgeyoung. Glad you found us. First of all, you were on American Pickers!? That's awesome. I'd love to hear more about that experience. Secondly, we love photos. So please share what you have. Yes this is a station wagon forum, but sounds like you have some neat stuff and we'd all be happy to see what you got. Lastly, I don't have an answer for you regarding the rear window glass. But, I am certain someone here does.
I picked up a roll of tape for sealing the glass into the channel from a local auto glass shop back when I restored my 66 7 Litre, just don't ask me to remember what the name of it is now, " duh". It's about 2" wide and 1/16" thick , you just wrap it around the edge of the cleaned & oil/ grease free glass then press the channel on until fully seared and trim the excess back to the edge of the channel. Something like a glass setting butyl tape should work. Thanks all, I'll run by NAPA and try some butyl tape. (I used to own a NAPA store in the 80's...In the same building that is in the Pickers episode!).
