Wow. And that’s a nice 30,000 mile car. Can’t imagine what he wants for that one if Gramps ‘75 is $10,500. $40,000 ought to take home Gramps ‘71. Wonder what grandma drove?

With this kind of deception frequently going on, you have to be a Perry Mason or a Columbo to find the truth........
I'd have some fun confronting the sellers with a few questions......

Craigslist is notorious as "anything-goes". EBay has a reputation as a place that tries to oversee an honest marketplace.

I called EBay a couple of hours ago and let them know this listing contained false statements. I am curious to see what happens. The person I spoke to said she would write up a ticket for the appropriate team but did not promise any action.

In the meantime the bidding on EBay has reached $6,500 - exactly double what I sold the car for after trying to accurately describe it's history.

I just couldn’t make up stories to try to unload a car. The pictures, and what I have figured out on my own about this car would preclude me from bidding on it, but why gild the Lilly. Anyone if they do any title looking will see that this guys full of $#|t. Plus the issues with the rear window. Which I’m sure he will say-Gosh it was working fine this morning!

Does ebay have a comment section for questions, that you could state you owned the car previously and were not 1st owner?
    BAT you can ask questions.

They do, but it is up to the seller whether to make the comment visible to the public or not.

EBay lets you ask a question of the seller, but I think it is up to the seller if they want to publish the response on the web page. When I am selling things and get questions I usually check the box to publish the response, in case anyone else has the same question.

In this case if someone were to post a question about the seller's grandparents alleged ownership, I doubt the seller would answer and check the "publish" box.

This guy has some kind of serious scam going on. If you look at the EBay feedback
    https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/kristine1322?filter=feedback_page:All
the person who "bought" the car gave him 4 thumbs up - yet the car is back on the market the next week!

There is also all kinds of positive feedback about the guy from previous alleged "sales".

I am no expert on EBay - buy my guess is that fake buyers who are buddies of his are bidding up the car, making the winning bid, and giving him a good review. I think he is then relisting the car, using his EBay reputation as a selling point, and then somehow switching the final sale outside of EBay so there is no record of any dissatisfied buyer.

Ebay doesn't care. Amazon doesn't care. As long as they get their money they are good. Just keep your eyes open when dealing with both. You can usually pick out the idiots, but not always.

EBay doesn't care! How true. I have purchased a car through eBay Motors. I did my homework, researched the car and seller, and honored my commitment to follow through on the purchase. It was a fair car for a fair price. However, my experience selling on eBay is far different. The first time, someone clicked the Buy it Now but then decided they didn't want the car. I paid to relist without Buy it Now and bidding exceeded expectations. The winning bid ghosted all attempts at communication. Third time listing the car you get all the questions why it didn't sell - is something wrong with it. Ebay response was to just leave feedback, but we know users game the system. On the third listing fee, I learned my lesson and contacted every bidder to see if they were serious and cancelled the bids of those that didn't respond. Finally got a paying buyer at a price I expected. Ebay will always be a sketchy venue to buy and sell cars until they begin to police the system.
My experience with Bring a Trailer and Hemmings Auctions is much more positive. They require bidders to have a credit card and hold a deposit to keep bidders honest. Both also have comment section to post about the vehicle. As eBay begins to lose sellers to these forums, maybe they will get a clue
