Whether you're at a car show, or just driving around town, any time you're driving an older wagon or other car, you're bound to get comments from passersby. In a perfect world, you get the thumbs up sign, or "nice car". Sometimes the comments are more memorable. Here are a few I'll always remember in reference to cars I've had or now have. Lets hear your most memorable comments.

64 Ford Country Sedan- at a reunion of several college buddies "Whoa!! What planet is that from?"

77 Ford Country Squire (a car my dad had) in a Sears parking lot- "Hey Mister. Is that real wood on the side of your car?"

68 Barracuda Formula S -stopped at a red light while driving through Berkley Springs, West Virginia on my way home from the Mopar Nationals
"Ouncha burn some rub op dem tars?" (It took me a while to figure out the translation on that one)

68 Barracuda fastback-at antique car show in Rockville, Maryland- "Great car, I had a Pinto just like that."

black 68 Charger RT- arriving at a local cruise-in near Manassas, Virginia- "Hey Cleatus lookit! It one of them Duke Boys!."

67 Dodge Coronet convertible-comment by neighbor, "That car is so ugly its beautiful." (I wasn't sure if I should thank him for a compliment or not.)

The Caprice often gets called "Ghetto" or "White-Trashy" I don't know why.

When I first started driving the Fury in High School some kids thought it looked like Ecto 1 and would say "Who ya gonna call? Ghost Busters!"
I've also had many folks tell me how they grew up with, riding in, got first kiss and what not in a 64 Plymouth wagon. The Baby Boomers allways share fond memories. The vintage Benton County Fire Dept command car sticker on the bumper is an interesting conversation piece as well.

When I showed a friend a pic of the wagon I just bought on eBay, he said, "That's gawdawful!" And to that, I said, Thanks...that's gonna be her new name!"

    "That's it...come on, Gawdawful!" Yeah. (y)

1979 Ford Pinto - I was vacuuming it at a car wash and some guy who looked about 21-years-old comes up from across the lot and goes, "That is the coolest f@#&ing car I've ever seen!"

This summer, at the end of the alley, the 2 sons own those sharp looking Mopar coupes and mom and pop drive a couple of european sports cars, all under 4 years old. I'm driving to the end of the alley to get on the side street, and the boys and mom are out washing their toys, and they all look up when I stop to turn, and she says, 'Holy sh!t, look at that beauty!' The boys (early 20's) gave me the thumbs up and the old man, hollered 'way to go!' They used to stroll the dogs in the alley and saw me Roller Painting it from back in 2007.

Most folks don't remember how large these cars were. They also are astonished at how comfortable some of them are. Everyone is conditioned to sit down on the road with a "sport-ride" on hard bucket seats. Most people seeing my car like the crystal blue metallic paint and the soft dark blue seats.

I posted this on the CLC forum, but here it is for us big wagon guys: I love to see older couples pull up in their new euro-japan styled car, crammed into the hard front seats, probably on their way to the chiropractor. Their eyes invariably roam longingly down the sides of the huge Ford/Merc next to them, remembering the car they gave up to the Emperor's Clunker program. That's when I stretch my arm out over the passenger seat of that Crown Vic or Grand Marquis and smile in the comfort of my "Ford-ride" and luxury. Heh, hehl, heh!

I had 2 people ask me if I was going to give up my 92 Roadmaster to the C4C program. I laughed and exadurated laugh and said sell my soul and the soul of my baby to communisim? There is not enuff money in the world to persuade me to be a sheep and sell out.

One night, on our way from taking the family to see the new Harry Potter movie, I had all 6 of us in our Roadmaster and we had this ghetto punk in a late 90s Civic, complete with the fart can, oversized pimp wheels and primered body kit pull up next to me at a red light with his radio thumping. Asked me how many carts of groceries it could haul. I looked at my wife, she said smoke him. I smiled, looked over and said there is only 2 things this thing hauls, my family and ass. He laughed and reved it up once, I power braked and started smoking posi, light turned, I lifted the brake in a burn out that would make John Force smile and he gave me a run, but I got him. He pulled up and said wow, it runs good. I said yeah, for me outweighing you by 3000+ pounds, you did keep up pretty well. He lost his smile and turned left at that light. lol

All the time the same comment. "I never saw a Cougar wagon before."

I think most think I made it up. In case some of you don't know.

    1977-9,800+
1982-19,254, none with V8 engines. 46% with the 200 inline six. The rest have the 3.8 liter V6.

    I think there's more surviving 77s.

I should carry mine with us, but I am afraid of being all cocky that one time and getting smoked by a sleeper and having it in footage to sulk over later. :banghead3:

I have been smoked by many cars that I shouldn't have from the looks of them, but shut down a few that should have gotten me judging by their looks. The best was a mid 80's Z28, all that car did was look good and get a good look at my rear bumper. The worst was a plain looking ford Taurus with a mismatched front clip, but once he went by the rear bumper had SHO moulded across it. Looked as though he had a wreck and used a plain Taurus front clip. If I had known it was a SHO, I wouldn't have even tried.

My shop teacher back in highschool had a 81 or 82 Cougar Wagon, silver with woodgrain. I had my 79 Fairmont Wagon at the same time. He had the 3.8 auto and I had the 200 4 speed just all silver. We used to park them side by side all the time in the lot. I would love to have either of them today.

Thats what I love about my FWD turbo Dodge beaters. The Horizon I turboed was a mess. Surface rust, turbo smoked because the internal seal was leaking. Smoked an 03 GT one day. The drivers buddy wanted to fight me, lol.
