It's certainly a beautiful car. I don't know if it's $12,000 beautiful, but it is beautiful. The Old Cars Price Guide doesn't often go as recent as 1988, but they did go through 1987 in the May/June 2019 issue. In there, they list the value of a 1987 LTD Country Squire station wagon in #1 condition (better than showroom) at $6,200. Before anyone asks, this is how the OCPG describes a #1 vehicle. 1) EXCELLENT: Restored to current maximum professional standards of quality in every area, or perfect original with components operating and appearing as new. A 95-plus point show car that is not driven. In national show judging, a vehicle in number 1 condition is likely to win top honors in its class. In a sense, it has ceased to be an automobile and has become an object of art. It is transported to shows in an enclosed trailer, and, when not being shown, is stored in a climate-controlled facility. It is not driven. There are few number 1 vehicles. In #2 condition, an '87 LTD Country Squire wagon is shown as having a value of about $4,400.
if this is as nice as it photographs, and it has 67K on it, I would say about 6-7ooo is a realistic price for this, providing it runs nice also. Heck, 6 grand doesn't buy much anymore, and you can have a nice ride for that price and with a little elbow grease. Now maybe a Colony would bring a little more. It's hard for me to look at these as collectible, as they seem so new to me, but here we are in 2019 and its already 30 years old.
I know what you mean. I look at 1988 cars and think, gosh I remember those new. Still have an ‘88 I bought new.
