Who would have thought we would see this day? http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/25/autos/ford-cars-north-america/index.html
One thing springs to mind: doing so to reallocate the CAFE standard, make it so they do not have to increase the individual vehicle standards among the trucks.
Wow. But it was probably inevitable. People are buying trucks and SUVs, so why build a vehicle that sells in small numbers? Plus, what silvertwinkie says is also a factor.
As the average population is aging and Millenials aren't showing much interest in car ownership, it seems manufacturers are focusing on building vehicles which allow easier entry and exit for an aging society. It looks like people like me will be doomed into having to buy older cars, since I don't need an S.U.V..
I honestly thought it was a prank when I first heard about this a day or two ago. I agree, it's a business decision. Why spend money on manufacturing something very few buyers are looking for. I do wonder if this will change though. FORD also killed the Ranger a number of years ago and said it wouldn't be missed. Now there is huge anticipation for the reintroduction of the Ranger after a 8 year hiatus.
Not to mention the Bronco, except their thinking is a smaller one. We Bronco lovers want a full-sized one. Ha, one of the Ford World chief execs, his last name is Mondragon, has a brother in Seattle, who is a full-sized Bronco aficionado and a member of Fullsizebronco.com; he said that he had lobbied his brother, ever since his brother took the executive position, about reintroducing the FSB, but to no avail.
It will be awesome until gas shoots back up and all Ford has on their lots are a bunch of SUVs and trucks. I have no use for either, but I also drive a 23 year old vehicle every day so I am probably not in their target audience. It also doesn't mean they will never build more cars again in the future. It's true. When you design a car and leave it to die on the vine very few people will look to buy it. I had to look up what a 2018 Fusion even looked like. Looks about the same as the 2013 MY car.
They have indicated that while the 'regular' Focus, the Fiesta, and the Taurus will be killed, the Fusion (which is still selling pretty well...) will continue to be built for at least a couple more years..... Once they kill off the Fusion, can we get a 4-door Mustang?
No doubt once they stop making the Fusion they'll realize they don't have a midsize four door car and try to make a four door Mustang.
Chevy is reducing the Impala, and Ford is killing their sedans altogether - what ever is the state police going to do? It will become that when you are driving on the highway and you come up on a sedan - slow down because only the cops are still driving them. so much for unmarked state troupers. will say here in VA seeing a lot more unmarked Explorers out there. sneaky!
Chevy had the Caprice PPV, but it was discontinued for 2018. Most every police force up here has moved on to Chargers. My town still has a couple of CV's still in action.
I certainly hope not! I always had to laugh when I would see an unmarked Caprice on the highway. For someone who is in "the know" they realize immediately that it is law enforcement. Most of the police fleets around here are now driving either Explorers or Chargers.
