195 Slant Four 4bbl, three speed manual looks to be in decent shape for the $5000 asking price. I have never noticed the arrowhead Block off plate on the manual transmission cars before (where the dash mounted auto shifter would be) pretty base car with the exception of the 4bbl engine & possible 2 tone paint (hard to tell if the roof was originally darker or not) it does have a Push button AM Radio, and seems to have a second speaker if the rightt dial actually says fader like I suspect it does. If it were close to me and had the optional roll down hatch window I would have to look at it. But if it were close to me it would be rotted out. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/d/1961-pontiac-tempest-wagon/6548683697.html
Isn't the air cleaner snorkel sawed off? What do you mean by dash-mounted auto shifter? Did it have one of these?:
If it were an automatic transaxle, the dash setup would look like this.... The gear indicator is the round bezel to the right of the ignition switch. The lever right below it selects 'D', 'R', 'N' or 'P'. (+'L'...maybe)
Okay. So, that's some sort of cable linkage going towards the transaxle. That poodle-necked steering column looks like it's missing the mast jacket
Ivy you are correct the air cleaner inlet snorkel is missing, and I mistyped I should have said automatic shift indicator not shifter here is what it would look like. The steering column is alittle faded in the picture Krash posted but that is how they look stock in 61/62
This thing is pretty neat. I wonder if the yard in the background is that large yard that specialized in oldies in Denton off I-35. The Caprice in the background looks pretty good too.
Did the shifter have a park lock-out or was is possible to have fun demolishing the tranny from the one vehicle borrowed?
The Corvair had a similar transmission shift lever setup. Both odd duck cars from GM about the same time period.
All that trouble to go through so that they could install bench seats. That 4-banger is the equivalent of a dual quad 389 sawed in half. I'd be curious to see how one of them would do the quarter mile stock
