Very nice car. It's funny that the designers would decide that the best thing to put right in the center of the dash is a clock. Do you really need to check the time that often? It belongs over the area of the radio so that other passengers can see it, too.
You could get an "economy" gauge in that location too, but it wasn't terribly common to see. Pontiac was putting their clocks in the cluster on the big cars starting in 1971 for some reason and carried this over into this generation. Once the "digital" clock option became more common over the radio\AC controls, you were left with a giant blank.
Same as my Safari...... There was also a digital clock that would be located in the center, just under the pad. Depends on the particular setup that came with the car. 'Gauge package' cars (mine isn't) got some sort of 'fuel economy' (vacuum?) gauge in place of the clock.
Or with the clock, there were 2 Gauge packages, the only difference is the clock or economy meter, my 78 has the meter. But either could be ordered without the rest of the gauges.
Huh, What do you know, there WAS something the original owners didn't order. I don't have the economy meter in the middle, mine just has the gear indicator and PONTIAC. My clock is in the middle.
