Starting bid is $21,995. I think that's a bit optimistic, but the seller is a dealer we've seen a number of times before. It's not my car, but it's very close! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Oldsm...ash=item25ed1f783e:g:ATIAAOSwGHJae6UO&vxp=mtr Here's mine. Not in as quite a nice a shape and not as well optioned (no power windows, no A/C, no cruise control, no dash clock, no cornering lamps. no power windows to name just a few hundred things this car has that mine doesn't), but I'd love to think it's worth anything close to this much. The ebay listing has another 100+ photos.
Cornering lamps but missing trim Impossible to prove it's a Starfire, when the exhaust and engine can't be seen
Did you look at the full listing? He has over 100 photos, including several of the engine. The air cleaner does not say "Starfire" on it. The Super Rocket V-8 came in three versions, low and high-compression versions with a 2-bbl carb and a high-compression version with a 4-bbl. The red air cleaner indicates a high-compression engine, but then it should say on it "Ultra High Compression" and "Premium Fuel Only," which this one does not. That suggest the low-compression engine, but then the air cleaner should be black. Air cleaner on this car. What the air cleaner should look like if that's a high-compression engine underneath, 2 or 4-bbl carb. Either the car has a high-compression engine, and he has the wrong decal on the air cleaner, or the engine is low-compression, and the air cleaner is the wrong color. As far as the exhaust, he does show that, too, and its dual. But that could have been added.
It's certainly an aftermarket exhaust system without resonators. Typical New School They had it hidden pretty good. It took some digging. If you didn't say it was there, I would have given up looking. E-bay should design their pages so that sellers don't suffer the disadvantage of taking photos in vain. He's got the 310 h.p. two barrel version. I'd like to know how he thinks he's got the Starfire option According to your chart, that particular air cleaner was assigned to the lowest horsepower 425 hooked up to standard transmissions. That undercarriage is well preserved:
The low-compression 2-barrel was standard equipment on Delta and Delmont 88's equipped with standard transmission. But it was available as a no-cost option on Deltas and Delmonts equipped with automatic transmissions. The base engine on Deltas and Delmonts with an automatic was the next engine up, the 2-barrel high compression, 310 hp. He could very well have the Starfire engine in this car and just have the wrong air cleaner decal on it.
I've been looking at these engines a little more closely, and we're overlooking something. It's not just the color of the air cleaner that indicates things, it's also its diameter and the length of the snout. Look at the air cleaners on the two low-compression engines. The snouts are both long, and the diameter of the air cleaner is smaller. That's consistent with a smaller carb underneath. This is what I have on my engine. Now look at the air cleaner on the two 4-bbl carb versions. The snouts are shorter, and the air cleaners are of slightly larger diameter to accommodate the fact that there's a larger carb underneath. Now look at the air cleaner on this Delta that's for sale. It's clearly the short-snout variety, and it looks like the larger diameter version of the air cleaner. In fact, it looks very much like the air cleaner on the engine on the right in the photo above, the 365 hp version. Of course, air cleaners can be changed, and we've already documented a few incorrect details on this car. But, if we take the air cleaner to be correct, then, while he still doesn't seem to have the Starfire engine, he certainly does seem to have more than the base engine. I've also learned something else in my research. The correct air cleaner plate on the 4-barrel carb engines actually does NOT say "ultra high compression" and "use premium fuel" on it. It only says those things on the 2-barrel air cleaner. The correct 4-barrel air cleaner just says "Super Rocket" on it. This Delta's air cleaner is correct in all respects for this being the 4-barrel, high compression, 365 hp engine.
Correct air cleaner plate for the 4-barrel Super Rocket. It is 10-inches in diameter. Image from Fusick. Correct air cleaner plate for the 2-barrel Super Rocket with high-compression engine. It is 7.5-inches in diameter.
Well, if he indeed has the wrong air cleaner, he's getting taken at face value as having the non-Starfire option That's an optical illusion. I thought that, at first, also. I verified that both are identical in measure, by taking my micrometer to the screen, measuring both for height and width. That's why overweight women wear black, since it makes them look less overweight then they already are You mean, the red one?
