Came across this wheel and I'm always collecting junk, bad habit passed down from my dad. The best I can tell it is a mid 60's or older (because of tire on it) Citroen 2AZ wheel. I was really unaware what it came off of until seeing the movie American Graffiti the other night.
Yup weird. I had one of these in the early 2000's. Count the lugs... (In fact, my truck looked EXACTLY like this....)
The Seven lug Ford. Being in the tire business you would think I would have seen a fair amount of those but I can only remember 4 or 5 times coming across those 7 lug Fords.
The seven lug wheels were only on the light-duty F250s with the Triton body design--7600 Lbs. GVWR, IIRC. That was an interim truck until the HD Super Duty trucks were released, which was either one or two years after the Triton body trucks came out midyear '97. I've only handled one, it needed brakes and new studs/nuts, because everything was wonky. My boss and I were fairly sure the wheels had not been fully and/or correctly torqued, and the wheels worked their way loose. The wheels did survive, though.
I've seen the Ford 7 lug on vans too. My son spotted one when I was teaching him about the 6 and 8 lug wheels and the different load capacties of the trucks. Then we are driving one day and he spots a 7 lug and asked me what that was. I must admit I was dumbfounded and didn't have an answer.
As far as I know, the 7-lugs were ONLY put on the light-duty F-250 P/U's - never saw them on any of the Econolines. Side note here: In the '97 and '98 model years, the truck was 'emblemed' as a 'F-250', but starting in the '99 model year, it was 'emblemed' as a 'F-150', but with another emblem denoting '7700 GVW' . I think 2003 was the last year for it, since the light-duty trucks were redesigned for the 2004 model year. Also note - Only certain cab/bed configurations were available with this package - no 'super crews', and no single-cab short beds, primarily.
