    Hi there!

Today i found a hose in the spare-wheel compartement of my '75 Grand Safari.
It belongs to that...thing in the first pic.
What is that and why does it end where the spare wheel should be?

    Thanks a lot!

Do you have a power antenna? It looks like that's the base of one, since it's in the trunk, and if it is, the hose is a water drain.

Water drain makes sense somehow, but I don't have a power antenna.

That is NO DRAIN! It is the cover for the window screw/worm drive where it extends down into the spare tire area. It protects it from dirt and keeps the grease on it where it belongs. It is attached to the bottom of the screw/worm drive unit that is driven by the window motor

Oh, okay. I didn't know that the window-drive is located there.
Is there any possibility to check the grease of the drive?
Of course I lubricated the left and right runner where the window moves, but it's still a bit noisy and squeaky while moving and I don't know why.

you can pull that hose/cover off or down, put the window all the way down and slime it up. should pull up thru as you move the window. I cannot remember if there is a way to actually get TO the unit itself I will try to remember and look. I have 2 in the basement.

Ah...I just learned something. A clamshell is one car type I've never had the pleasure to have dealt with, so I've never seen that drive unit.

actually if I remember correctly you can see that worm/screw drive cable thru the pass side rear pillar when the window is up also. you could use spray grease on THAT too. IF by chance you need a new(different) assembly I believe I have 2-3 of them.. I will tell you they are a BIT*H to change

Oh no, i don't want to change anything there as long as everything works fine...i'm glad that the previous owner rebuilt the whole clamshell.

So, today I removed the hose and lubricated the cable, looked pretty dry. I also lubricated the small visible part of the worm and the part of the cable behind the right pillar.
It had no real effect, but lubrication is always good.

There's still some noise from the motor itself and some squiky noise from the roof, I cannot locate it exactly, but everything looks fine, so I have to deal with that.

I was ready to go with power antenna. But I can't remember even seeing a real live clamshell wagon in person.
Love to have a nice one in my driveway.:)

May not be a bad idea to Lube the drive cable that goes between the worm/screw drive box and the actual window motor. It is basically a few inch long speedometer cable

I agree. But I haven't seen a way to get access to that part of the cable, it's all covered.
Do I have to disassemble the motor?/the connection between both parts?

Trying too remember been a while. I think it unscrews off of both ends and SHOULD pull out from one end or the other just like a speedo would. (speedo's usually will pull completely out of the casing but only one way). I will try and get down in the basement and see if I can figure it out.
