http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/station-wagons-just-hamber-owned.1025598/ Different styles of wagons to look at from another forum. Funny here most like original wagons. not so much there. Mike
Wow, there are a lot of neat cars on there. I have gone to the Jalopy journal/H.A.M.B frequently in the past, but am not a member. It's quite interesting how many of those cars are from my state of Washington.
Yeah, no kidding. And I never get to any of the car shows anymore, so I don't get to meet these wagon owners.
It would be neat to meet more wagon owners. There are lots of classic car and truck owners around, but there don't seems to be many wagon owners. This forum and the link you posted prove they are obviously out there. It would be fun if there was some sort of regional Stationwagon get together. I'd drive a couple of hours to go to something like that.
That would be the H. A. M. B. site. It's part of the Jalopy Journal. Cars of every shape, size, style, and model. Most members are into rods and customs. I'm a member and like here, I was on regularly. For some reason since I re-retired back to the mid west I don't get on the internet as much. I was already retired I just got tireder so moved closer to our kids. Like Silvertwinkie we no longer get out to shows much. Missed Daytona Turkey Rod run again.
I used to be a member of the H.A.M.B., but they are very specific in not allowing anything newer than 1964 (unless the administrators happen to like the newer car). I was pretty much asked to leave because my 67 Coronet and 67 Belvedere were too new". I don't miss it.
I remember back when only vehicles 1948 and older were allowed at most car events. So when I traded my '55 Chevy wagon I wanted a panel truck. I got a 1948 Chevy half ton panel for that reason even though early 1955's looked the same. I do agree, as newer vehicles come out and younger people buy something around what they grew up with, limits need to change in some groups. I still like the earlier cutoffs because at many shows now the same cars I see at Wal-Mart are in the car events.
I guess I could understand if the cut off was 1959 or 1960. 59 or 60 could be considered the end of an era, the end (for the most part) of large fined and chrome laden automotive excess. But 64 is just an arbitrary choice for a cut off year. By 64 America had already seen the addition of compacts, intermediates, mid size muscle cars and pony cars added the the American automotive scene. What makes 64 a more reasonable cutoff than 1966 or 1969? Why include the 64 GTO and 64 Barracuda but not the 67 GTX or 67 Camaro? So when the HAMB members got nasty about comments and pictures of 1966-67 cars, I was more than happy to leave. Their rational was that there were plenty of forums for muscle cars and pony cars. But why then would they include the first year of pony cars and muscle cars in their group? Besides, its not like everything built after 64 was a muscle car or a pony car, right?
Not only that, but the original 'muscle' cars debuted earlier; so they (Chrysler 300, F-code 312-equipped Fairlane, any Chevrolet with a 409, etc) were the pioneers of muscle cars, so why disenfranchise yourself on an arbitrary year? Why cut off its nose to spite its face?
Yea, they are particularly fussy about posting stuff newer than '64. Got my knuckles rapped once. Didn't go over there much after that. Their rules, I guess.
Besides station wagons, I just love vehicles!!! Cars ,bikes , trucks, whatever! Anything I can ride after I build it I love. I got a weed eater I'm working on now. Do y'all think that's cools enough to post on crackers.com?!?
