Getting Low

    I was thinking about dropping my '68 Torino Squire 2" front and back. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone about the shocks. Would I need to replace shocks with shorter ones? Where would I be able to find them? IMG_8811.JPG

    I assume that you have coil springs in the rear.

    I do not know what shocks to buy, but you should be able to use your original ones for the time being. It may tight getting the rear wheels off, if you use shorter shocks. You may not be able to get the body high enough to get the wheels off.

    With the original shocks, your springs may slip off of the perches when you jack the rear for tire changing, unless you control them with tubes welded to the top perches. You can also tiewrap them to the bottom perches as well.

    I have leaf springs in the rear. I was thinking about putting lowering blocks on.

    The same advise applies without the reference to the rear springs. The only difference is that the rear will not drop as far when you jack the car, no matter what shocks you put on it.

    I am not familiar with your car's specific setup, but my answer would be no. Your bump stops are still in the same position relative to the shock travel so there should not be any danger of bottoming the shock out. How are you lowering the front end? Whatever you do, make sure that your shocks are up to the task of dampening increased rate springs. Nothing worse than underdamped springs.

    I can't help it, my opinion is the car is beautiful as is, but to each their own... as to your title all I could think of was a pretty good movie...

    It's only 2". It's not like he is going to be laying frame. I think it should look pretty good.

    I'm all for it. It's all about personal preference. I like the look of reducing (removing) wheel gap. However, your wagon does like great, as-is.

    I lowered my front about 1.5", and left the rear alone, to give it a bit of a rake. I ordered my coil springs from Eaton. And I also ordered rear springs, in case I want to drop the rear to match the front. I think they make leaf springs too, if you want to do it without using blocks.

    As far as shocks, like KevinVarnes stated, get some that match your increased spring rate. You might be able to get by with the existing shocks. You'll know soon enough.
