Have you tried... http://www.car-part.com/ They are all over the country and even if you just find the CAR it's on you can email them. It's worth a shot if you haven't tried them.
Nothing sadly All sources have dried up. I guess If I'd known at the time, I might have been one of those people that bought 5 when they were still available!
Yeah...I've been in that situation too where I wished I would have.... There are some out there somewhere...I KNOW there are! That's a popular wagon.
Liquid rubber. So one could pour them DIY if they had a mold? I'm most likely going to the junkyard this weekend and if I go I'm gonna have some time. I stopped last weekend with my daughter but we didn't have a lot of time so we didn't walk the whole yard. Still I saw at least 2 Caprice wagons of this era. If I can get to them, I'll pull these strips and see just what they consist of. I'm sure they're weathered beyond belief but at least one can get the profile and all. I just need a couple tires for my Celebrity (thanks to Michigan roads 2 of my tires have broken belts and 1 blew the sidewall) and if I get the tires he will probably just say take the strips. I also saw a RWD Cutlass Cruiser late 70s/early 80s. Are those strips discontinued too? Would it be worth grabbing those? Any tips to removing them? I've not worked on these wagons before.
large GM tailgate rubber I have no idea how to remove it I don't want to mess with mine and make it worse If you have some luck that would be great Thanks JeRita
Yeah I wouldn't expect anyone to tear it apart just for instructions. But if anyone's had it apart before and could give me a jump on what to expect, I'd appreciate it. Don't wanna have to lug my whole tool set to the back of the junkyard if I don't have to.
Well I didn't need my tools anyway. I couldn't find any proper sized tires that held air on rims, so I picked up a couple loose ones and my friend is going to mount these other tires on them. And the wagons I found, the rear strips were dry rotted beyond belief. Basically would crumble in your hand. But I did get an idea of what they look like new and it doesn't look like anything that fancy. They do curve at the ends is all.
Still endlessly searching for part number 20225797... Anyone else had any luck? :banghead3: I do now have my 87 Safari though. Which makes me happy!
Every car I see that has one they are all slightly detoriated like mine I wish some would make that part available
I know this is a very old thread, BUT, I'm still needing the weatherstrip in question. (GM 20225797) Has anybody found a source yet? I didn't mean to make this a Lazarus post, but if ya gotta, ya gotta. paul
I'm gonna try my hand at building a plaster/fiberglass mold to reproduce this unobtanium piece, what I need is a reasonably intact piece to copy. Does anybody have one, off the car, that I can copy? (mine is way too far gone) I'm also looking for the rear body to bumper rubber/plastic filler piece, I found the end pieces, but no luck on the middle. With a little help, I think we can fill this gap. Thanks, Paul
