Ford Pintos http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5614877042.html MUST BE TOWED. WILL TOW LOCALLY FOR $50.00 Less than 1400 miles, that's local, isn't it?
One of those cars that you tend to find guys having 3-4 at a time and trying to sell them all at once...
Read that again. At first I thought $975 for all which is still $800 too much. I HAVE FOR SALE THREE (3) 1971 & 1973 FORD PINTOS! 1 RED, 1 YELLOW, 1 GOLD! $975. EACH. BUY 1 OR ALL 3.
If your going to start a museum, you'll need one of these. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/5583413519.html and one of these
For 800 bucks you and your friends could buy them and play Pinto fuel tank roulette. You just keep rear-ending each other until the car that hasn't blow up in a massive fireball is left.
The driver / pilot behind the wheel......goner. Crashed near the Camarillo, CA. airport on a test flight. From what I remember, it was under-powered for flying, and one of the struts from the wing to the rear wheel well failed in-flight. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVE_Mizar
As nice as the '77 I had in red. Why, yes, it so happened to have the Porno Red interior. That is very nice.
My mom had a '76 Pinto 2-door, white with black cloth interior. It lasted 6 months. Mom was broad-sided one rainy day shortly after buying it. A couple of months after getting it repaired, my dad was driving it one day in a snow storm and was run off the road on an exit ramp; straight into the guard rail totaling the car. No injuries in either accident, thank God. I can't help but think it was God's way of saying, "This car is not for you." (It was the first and only Ford Mom ever owned lol).
Every time I see or think of a Pinto, except the wagons, I think of Gerritt Graham and the tall blonde with the fur coat in "Used Cars," which I unfortunately can't find on YouTube. The upshot is that when Kurt Russell is selling to the nuns, Gerritt Graham's with the blonde in the back of the Pinto, happily humping away, and the hatch glass is bouncing off his @$$!
I can't remember what year it was or the year of the Pinto. Our second son drove a used one several years as it slowly fell apart. After the power steering went out he still drove it. He said it didn't steer bad. I believe because it kept getting lighter as parts fell off and the rest turned to rust.
My wagon was actually really good; I had to replace the carpet (found a black used one at the old PaP), fix some crap on the engine and put a new seal on the L/R servo cover. Otherwise, it ran like a raped ape.
Seems like son's Pinto ran fine it just turned to rust and parts broke. Of course it lived in central Illinois in winters with salt on the roads. If they put down salt or that blue crap next winter I'm not going shopping till spring.
Even in Southern California they rusted in strange places. I worked on one a few years ago for a guy and man... getting that stupid carburetor to idle properly was such a hassle. The gearbox and clutch were pretty easy and forgiving as I recall, but just getting the thing to idle and not overheat was tough. And it did seem like the brake parts got ate up quickly... more than a few people I know personally had trouble with brakes getting chewed up regularly.
The Ford garage back home is one mile out of town just past the cemetaries. The average new Pinto owner lived on the south side of town, maybe two miles from the dealer ship. A new Pinto often made it to it's new home before it rusted too badly if the sun was shinning.
