I bought a 67 wagon that was modified for street/strip use and the previous owner modified the front of the rear leaf spring perch. Basically the perch was cut off and the leaf was moved inboard. The mounting point at the rear of the leaf was modified also. I don't think they are the stock height mounting points. Would be ever grateful if someone with one of these cars could measure the distance from the top of the unibody frame rail to the front leaf spring eye. Would also need the rear measurement say from the bottom of the frame rail down to the center of the rear leaf spring eye. Think the front measurement would also work measuring from the bottom of the frame rail up to the spring eye. Hope I didn't make this sound more complicated than it is. Thanks for any responses
I don't have a Fairlane wagon, but I do have a 66 Fairlane and a shop manual. I'm also not sure what measurement you're asking for. Send me your email address and I'll send you a picture of the underbody dimension in the shop manual.
Thanks for the reply. The wagons had a rear leaf spring mount that bolted to the underside of the frame. The shackles then bolted to that mount. I need the measurement from the bottom of the frame rail to the center of the rear leaf spring eye at the back of the spring. Basically how far it drops down from the frame rail to the rear of the spring. I have the shop manual but it doesn't show that measurement.
Hi DGS, I reckon I can help you out. I've got the front end up on stands at the moment, but will try and squeeze under the back. Stay tuned. I'll make you a deal, can you give me some measurements (and pics if possible) for the fixed side cargo windows please? I want to make sure they are the same as the 66? Cheers
I think I have what you are looking for here, however with the front of the car up on jacks, it was hard to get clear access for the pictures. The first pic (Front leaf 1.2) shows the front shackle. The long line is the base of the main chassis rail, black arrow facing towards the front of the car. The big difference here vs the back, is that shackle is mounted to the outside of the chassis rail, where as the back shackle is mounted to the bottom of the rail. The 2nd pic (FL2.2) shows a close up of the bracket, but it'snot a great angle. The black line I drew shows where the floor meets the chassis rail. The top of the tape is on the floor, shows the height from the top of the rail at 3 1/2 inch. FL 3.2 shows the shackle attached to the outside of the rail (spring outlined in pink, running in front of the black lined chassis. As for the back, RL#1 shows the rear drivers side, looking from just under the bumper. The RL#2pic shows the rear shackle. In this case, the tape is wedged between the bottom edge of the rail and the bracket, looks like 5inch. Hope this helps, I'll try and get some better pics of the front shackle set up, but just keep in mind the front is mounted on the side of the chassis. cheers
So I had another crack at those front leaf photos, they look much better. Front leaf 4 shows much the same as FL2, but clearer, showing the shackle attached to outside of frame rail, and will give better idea of how the measure tape was placed. Front leaf 5 is taken from directly underneath showing attachment right through chassis rail.
I see the bracket you're talking about in a shop manual figure in the Suspension section. No dimensions, although it looks like it places the bolt centerline about 1.5 shackle bushing diameters from the bottom of the subframe if drawn to scale.
Thanks so much 66Fairlanewagon, you went above and beyond posting your response. I took some measurements of the fixed side windows. 44" along the bottom, 40" across the top and the vertical measurement was 12 3/4". That's measuring the visible glass I could see, it would be bigger out of the car. Let me know if you need anything else, and once again thank you.
No worries at all, glad I could help. I'm finding heaps of people with heaps of knowledge here, but it seems there aren't a lot of our wagons around for the kind of info you were asking about. Keep up with the pics, would love to see it as the build progresses! Cheers
DGS, I saw this on Ebay, perhaps it might help with you rebuild? It's hard to see the details, but it is details of wagon frame dimensions. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-FORD-F...620454?hash=item4d42686826:g:gZoAAOSwnLdWsl4G Cheers
