That's what it is...you use the 'alternate tire wear' for the rear axle, except you move the fronts to the rear/rears to the front, and make the 'alternate' swaps after. I just couldn't remember that.
Soft terrain, is all I can figure. NOT mud or sand, just soft terrain, like a pasture or rolling grass hills. Now, with mud and snows, heck yeah!
I'd say the real answer for it is just so people will ask questions and it looks cute at car shows. If it's never driven the tires will never need rotated.
