Anyone know how the wood decals on tin woodies are made to look like they have been covered in shellac? Have they been sprayed with clear?
Maybe they've been actually covered with shellac. That would make it shiny. If it were shinny, it would look like someone's knobby knees. Shellac uses alcohol as a solvent. The solvents used in clear paint would more than likely cause the surface to blister or melt. Why don't you try it and report back to us?
The inquisitive side of me is wondering how a hard automotive clear will work on a surface that fluctuates with temperature (greater than metal). I'd ask the paint shop.
The clear is applied to the vinyl as part of the printing process. The stuff on my former Vista Cruiser was glossy like a deep clearcoat but it can be flat to super glossy. I've heard of people clearing over it but x2 on asking your paint guy, there are some good auto body forums too. Maybe you could you put a clear glossy finish vinyl film over that vinyl to make it shinier? The stuff is invisible when it's applied correctly over paint, don't know about vinyl.
