Beautiful example. I suspect it has a tilt wheel, as well as the other listed options. No floor shift in the console gives that away. An unusual car, since most who wanted this type of car spent the tiddly bit more for the Thunderbird. I really wish I had the cash for this. She's a beauty.

No tilt wheel, blowing up the pic makes that clear, no lever for it beside the turn signal lever.

Had no idea grey was a option, nice shape, I'd drive it, and I'm not a fan of these.

Those tilt mechanisms are integrated into the turn signal switch assembly, so no extra lever--you push the T/S lever away from you. That design was used from '72 to '79 in a couple configurations in all the cars and starting in 1980 in the full-sized trucks and vans through the '91 MY. I think it's likely it has tilt, but without the ability to actually zoom the pic to see the details, it's still up in the air.

Looks nice. But if I owned it I couldn't get $1000 out of it tomorrow.

Curious that the previous generation Elite/Cougar got floor shift with the buckets and console option, but the subsequent LTD II/Cougar did not.

Bucket and console cars got floor shift UNLESS tilt wheel was also ordered. The lack of floor shift is what clued me in to this one having tilt. Actually, bucket seat cars got floor shift and the console was a separate extra cost option. Neat that this one has the gauge package, too. That means it has the light package and the convenience package, as they were required for the gauge package. By the way, Ted, the tilt lever on Ford's is not on the drivers side when it is separate from the signal. It is on the passenger side. I am looking at exactly that in my 88 right now.

Except the '79-'87 mid- and full-size cars (such as my '81 Fairmont and all three of my Panthers, two '83 wagons and an '87 CV where the tilt lever is on the right side at about 5 o'clock.) and small trucks (Ranger/Bronco II/Explorer) with the round column covers.

There's a body shop near where my dad lives that has a '77-'79 Cougar they're pulling the front end parts off of. I keep thinking I should pull in there and see what it has, in case it has the gauge package and they haven't absconded with it yet.

Will do. Anybody need anything? I can't make a promise this'll pan out, but if it does, a few of us could end up happy (NO I don't mean THAT).
