Thanks Folks!!! I'll be disconnecting the rear sway bar because it didn't come with one from the factory. If that helps --Great --- also going to put it on the front in machine after X-mas
Sunday AM I got my creeper & started to take the rear sway bar off. -BUT- after looking around it looked loose--so I tighten the damn thing up a little - like about 1/4 in. on the frame side. Backed her out & this seems to help a lot! Today Monday @ 9AM I'm off to the front end shop we shall see what happens next! Stay tuned!!!!! Dennis PS Lots off stuff loose on my frame off project!!
Might be a good idea to make sure everything else is straight and tight before spending money on alignment.
I wouldn't say it's been raining here on the Gulf coast. More like they tipped the Gulf of Mexico up side down and have been emptying it!
Oversteer is corrected on Fox-bodies (Zephyr, Fairmont, Mustang, Capri) with a rear swaybar. If you dropped it 4", your rear springs are stiffer, and that won't help on tight corners. I haven't driven mine since I installed a stock rear swaybar, and it wasn't an option on my wagon, even for cop cars, so I can't say for sure, but other fox wagon owners love the handling.
I autocrossed years ago, and have modified the suspension on all my cars. It sounds to me like your front sway bar needs to be bigger, or the rear one smaller. Make sure your front sway bar bushings and endlinks are tight too! Go through everything and make sure it's tight. The people who put it together might not have finish tightened everything!
I guess I need to bring You-ings up to why the 4"drop. I took the tall bias tires & 5 in rims off and installed 14/ 6" wide American mags & Low profile Radials. I will gets some pictures on here in the near. Dennis
Thank ya'al Dennis. I don't know about you but I am more confuzzed than before. Some are saying ya'all need a rear sway bar while others say it's causin the problems. Some say larger. Some say smaller. Does size really matter? Good luck and keep playin around till ya git it right. Maybe add some big ole snow tires and chains then test it.
Too big of a front bar compared to rear, will create understeer, while too big of a rear bar compared to front, will create oversteer. A well balanced set will give neutral handling.
Update on my 202 Comet Wagon!! Still setting covered up. no real work done -sept- pulled the tags off and sent off to be sandblasted and painted. 64 Va. tags are black with white numbers. Still finding loose nuts & bolts! The front sway bar has been tighten to match the rear one, about 1/4 ' of thread showing on all 4 corners. I haven't cranked it up since X-mas. As soon as the weather and salt & sand is off the roads We're off to the front end shop. Dennis
Folks, a little update on my 202 S/W. I had the front end aligned-- from what the man said it was the worst out of line he'd seen in years!! 4% native-- I don't know much about this . But this really helped --drives great BUT still have the over stir. I got the cut off thing fixed-- New MSD system took care of it! Turn lights & head lights fixed ----new switch from NAPA & Ignition switch while it was apart!! All that's left is the Over stir!!! I'm be going to car shows this weekend and maybe some one there can give me some input on it . I'll let ya know Dennis
For what it's worth you might want to join the Fairlane Club of America because they discuss the comet which are cousins to the fairlane and have alot of tech knowledge plus alot of resources. Myself I have gotten much return from joining because our vehicles were ones thet were unique to 62-65 in production. Allot of discussions on your problem.
63---------Thanks & will do so!!! I have a nice wagon and when the damn Over stir is taken care of it will be much ,much better!! Dennis
Sawdy sorry but I made a mistake about that club It's the Meteor that is the cousin to the fairlane. Would probably not benefit you, Sorry old age is catching up,
