new wagon owner here. Just acquired a 58 Ford County Sedan that will need love and nurturing back to his former glory. Only one small dent in the front fender but lower quarters and rear of the rockers are gone from sitting low in the mud for 45 years. That right, this big boy has been off the road since 1969/70 per the last safety sticker still on the windshield. With some effort I hope to have him road worthy in the next few months then we'll decide what to do with the "Mileage Maker 6" under the hood.

    and so the story goes...

well, I was thumbin through the want ads of the Shelby County Tribune when this classified advertisment caught me eye. It said take immediate delivery of this 195....

and as the rest of the song goes, so went the find.

I dont even remember now what I was looking for or my "search parameters" but staring my in the face was a short string of ads one of which said "Parting - 58 Ford Wagon". Now about a year ago a neighbor about a mile away had a 58 Ranch Wagon that he sold for parts so I was curious if it was the same car so I opened the add. The car looked remarkably complete and straight but the ad had been up for a month so I was sure it was gone or in a million pieces.

    Nope.

The seller had hurt his back so all the offers to part it out he had done nothing with and at this point just wanted to sell the car complete if I was interested. We drove the hour out to where the car was, talked it over, wife wasn't to keen on it and I did my best to talk myself out of it. The guy said he was leaving the next morning to go hunting so he said call him in a week.

    I waited two.

Two weeks later, and and mostly but still not completely talked myself out of it I'm at a junkyard grabbing parts for another car. Sitting there, amongst all the new crap was a 58 Edsel Ranger 4 door. Picked over pretty good but the stuff missing off the wagon was staring me in the face here on the Edsel.

So, I called the guy that night and yes it was still sittin there and yes he'd take $500 for it. That weekend I went to pick it up and it wouldn't fit on my flatbed. The seller loaned me his Cat trailer to take it home. Then, the car wouldnt move. It would roll backwards but not forwards.

I had to jack it up and release the brake adjusters so it would roll in the correct direction. Funny thing was, when I got home, it wouldn't roll backwards now so I had to strap it to another car and slide it off. After inspection, I took my list to the junkyard and thankfully the Edsel was still there.

I have to go back to the Edsel tomorrow and get a few other things I missed on the first trip. Plus, I'm pulling the windshield out of it. Anyone know how to remove the windshield trim on a 58 Edsel ?

If you click on "my garage" it will take you to wagon pics

Rmvr that's quite a story. I believe that is proof you will fit in here. Good luck on a big project. Good thing the Edsel happened to be handy for parts.
As for the windshield, that could be tricky if it's anything like 55-57 Chevys. Mostly work slow and careful what you pry on.
Thhat's a decent looking wagon and mostly all there. The piece of trim on the driver door may be a problem finding but keep searching. Maybe you'll discover another gem your wife will love.
