I have a chance to check this out.....only has 70K miles on it. Will need fresh tires, radiator and maybe a few other minor repairs....or it could be the biggest money pit ever...I do like that it has a factory 4 speed...
Hope it works out for you. As for the money pit, if I remember the head gaskets go on all these around this millage and more times than not the head warps so...???
Depends--2.2/2.5 is so-so, the 3.0, definitely, plus the added feature of the valve guides on older ones dropping in with the valves, and the 2.6 is good but bloody expensive, and if it still has the Solex-Mikuni carb, bloody difficult to repair/rebuild/adjust. If it were mine, I'd pull a minivan 3.3/3.8 and auto trans and pop it in.
As far as I know, the Aries and Reliant were never offered with a V6, period. Later versions like the bigger Chrysler LeBarons, etc had the V6's, but not the original K-cars. Of course, dropping one in with minivan stuff or the later car versions should be do-able.
AFAIK, the last couple years had the 3.0, whether with an auto or manual. And a 3.3/3.8 is narrower than a 3.0, so it would fit.
I was not sure sure if I am ready to take on another car right now, but I ran into the owner at a car show yesterday, and we chatted about it for awhile. I think I am least going to check it out. It might be a few days before I get a chance to, because I have to go out of town next weekend.
The Reliant/Aries "K" cars had either a 2.2L US-built Four (turbo optional later on), or the Mitsubishi 2.6L Four. NO V6 engines in either car. The 2.6L was originally going to be called the "426 Hemi"...no lie! It is a four-cylinder, 2.6L Hemi engine. Thankfully, smarter minds prevailed, and the buying public was never insulted with such a marketing ploy.
I like it. It's different-works for me. Manual trans too. I see some fun possibilities. I'd go for it but then again I go for being different. My other car is a 1998 Olds Aurora......
I would swear I saw a last-model-year wagon (can't remember which nameplate it was) that had a 3.0. but that was more than a decade ago. OK.
