I put a Tilt Column that I got off of Ebay into my 67 Wagon. The seller told me it came off a 68 Galaxie. I got it all mounted up and went to shift through the gears but there is a lot of slop and it will slide smoothly from 1 position to the next. There should be a shifter detent of some sort but I don't know how to get to it an don't want to break anything. I have 2 non tilt auto columns that I could swap parts from if the parts are interchangeable.

By the way, I connected the column to an AOD using a Lokar Universal Linkage kit. I replaced all the bushings on the bell crank. The Lokar Kit supplied heim joints that connect to a shaft (I had to bend into a Z) and an arm on the transmission with an adjustable mounting point for the heim joint shaft. This is not a matter of worn bushings.

My kids were playing in the car (driving to the beach) when one of their knot head friends decided to play Tarzan and swing off the column shifter!!! I hit the ceiling, snatched him up by the scruff, and threw him out the garage. Damage was already done with a loud crunch and a bang. Yet another reason I can't be around other peoples kids. So... Now you know the rest of the story. PLEASE, help! I'd really like tilt steering. I've already put too much time and limited funds into this swap to have to take it all back out!

Is it still legal to shoot kids in Texas?
I believe you answered your own questions. Take the upper columm and shifter apart and compare parts with your old parts. Hope for the best.
Apparently Tarzan broke something. If murder is out of the question possibly you can turn him into a Jane!:taz:

    :yup: I wish!!!

That's what I plan to do. I started taking the tilt column apart but only got as far as taking out the turn signal assy. The next part appears to be the actual tilt mechanism. First of all, I don't want to break anything further. 2nd I am concerned about any spring tension. I don't want any parts to come flying off and bash me in the face or fly across the garage.

I ordered a 68 Thunderbird Tilt Column manual off E-Bay for $9.00. Hopefully it will give some good pics, service procedures, adjustments, etc as well as come in handy with the wiring of the new connectors to the existing. But if anyone knows how to take this thing apart before the manual arrives in the mail, please feel free to let me know.
